About
Built in 1895, the 6,604-yard track of "New" Course has remained virtually unchanged for more than a century. The oldest ‘new’ course in the world, the second course at the Home of Golf was built by the Keeper of the Green, Tom Morris. The New Course is a public golf course open to all, just like the other six at St Andrews Links.

Fantastic course in great condition. Good challenge for all levels of golfers. Tee times available as first come first served on the day of play. Course staff and Marshall's were very pleasant and helpful. Loved the experience.

I played this course with my sons and husband as a finale to a golfing adventure! The weather was kind so we were lucky getting to play a pleasant round of golf in February. The fairways are wide and being a links course, there was plenty run on the ball. The bunkers were tricky but we did our best to avoid going in them! The clubhouse was very impressive, the staff in the Pro shop and the starter at the first tee were welcoming and friendly.

This is the second Golf trip I have had in St Andrews with my friends in the last 3 months. We arrived at the course and early morning and made our way to the clubhouse where we booked ourselves in at reception confirming our tee off time. Once that was done we headed through to the restaurant and ordered some breakfast (There are many options from a full breakfast to bacon, black pudding, haggis and egg rolls to porridge) and a drink (Coffee,Tea). The food served here is of a high standard and very pleasing. After Breakfast we headed out and got ready for our round.
The weather throughout the day got wetter (unfortunately Scotland has it's fair share of wet weather). Luckily it was not a constant heavy rain which makes it really not enjoyable but a heavy drizzle. The wind was non existence which is really rare for Links golf. All of the above should be happening during the winter here. Even though the mats were in play the course was really enjoyable. Play off the mats started at the first cut off the fairway. Layout of the course is very flat and not punishing even for non golfers to walk around. The Greens for this time of year will be the best of the best during winter of any course in Britain. After the round we once again found ourselves in the club house getting some lunch. Service like earlier was very swift and efficient. I'd definitely have no problem in recommending the restaurant for food to non golfers and the course for keen golfers it is a must play. After all this is St Andrews! Hopefully my return will be sooner than later.

Absolutely loved St Andrews but was shocked that the New course gets high reviews. The course is easy and boring with little or no character.Greens the slowest we played in Ireland or Scotland.Loved the Old course and the Jubilee plus the town itself but I would skip this course.

We're glad you enjoyed your time in St Andrews and playing the Old and Jubilee Courses. We're sorry to hear the New Course wasn't as challenging as you hoped. We hope you return to take it on again - links golf is always great for a different challenge every time you play.

I went to St Andrews wellbread on the old course, and I met a gentleman called dusty in a pub in golf place who travels the world relating stories of St andrews and it's history,... But he told me of the new course and inferred I was in for a treat....he was absolutely spot on...what a wonderful links course, interesting beautifully kept and maintained, a great set up tricky bunkers and fabulous greens....a real golfing treat as the man said....new course by the way...it's only five years younger the it's famouse old sibling, and some would say more testing. A real pleasure to play.

Without the history, hoopla, or price of the Old Course, the New Course is a fun 18. Keeping it in the fairway, not easy if the usual winds prevail, makes it very playable. Easy to walk and looking back toward St Andrews skyline is always a joy.

Missed the cut for the Old course so played the New course instead. It was very easy to get a slot and it’s much cheaper than the Old course. Two of our buddies played the Old course at the same time we hit off, and from what they said, the main difference between the two courses is the experience you have on the 1st and 18th. Of course these 2 holes are iconic. The rest of the holes on both courses are great to play, but in my opinion, nothing particularly special.

My bucket list included playing a round at St Andrew's. I passed on playing the Old Course because of time and expense but found it easy to get on the New Course, relatively inexpensive at 80 BPS. What great fun. Narrow and rolling fairways. Deep bunkers (yes, it is possible to get out in one try!). Fast greens. The New Course is directly adjacent to the Old Course and, frankly, I didn't see much difference in the physical aspects of the two courses. Of course, playing the Old Course has its own cachet. The experience was really enhanced by relatively warm, clear weather, and not too much wind. Don't pass this up if in the area!

The new breed New Course "only" goes back to the late 1800's but provides a reasonably good sense of the links experience, able to walk on without a winning lottery ticket or tee time, most everyone walks which is easy enough with the flat, back and forth layout, many take caddies, but when the wind and rain click on, hold your hat, clubs and everything else especially by the three or so holes by the water, mostly what you see is what you get but its the weather and then the weather in your head that brings the ocean of misery - all good though, easy train to Leuchars from Edinburgh then follow the faithful as they wander in to the city of St. Andrews which is also walkable

Beautiful course ! We enjoyed the day with the best caddies ( we think) in the world . Certainly the best we’ve ever had. (They we’re our first caddies ever) recommend a caddie for each person they are very personable and informative about the course , the area and Scotland.

Good afternoon,
I will be in May 2018 in St, Andrews and I wanted to play on the 10th and 12th (Thursday and Saturday) in New Course and Old Course.
What day of the week can I have more options in these golf courses?
Regards,

We went in the ballot for the Old Course for August next year. We missed out and they offered our group a spot on the New Course and want full payment of £75 green fee each in 2 weeks time (10 months in advance).
I was wondering whether it was so difficult to get on the New Course to justify paying that long in advance. Do you have any views.

Hi Billy, all of our courses are very busy during high season, particularly the year after an Open Championship. The best thing to do is contact the Reservations department. They will advise you of your options and answer any questions you may have. Thanks.
