About
Recognised the world over as the Home of Golf, St Andrews Links has borne witness to over 600 years of golfing history. That the game evolved and developed into its final form here has never been in question. Golf has been played on the famous Links since as early as the 1400s, and it was here in 1764, when the 22 hole Old Course was reduced, that today's 18-hole round was established, becoming the standard for golf courses the world over. One golf course has now become seven, and many of golf's most dramatic moments have occurred here. The Links has played host to the game's greats as well as those enthusiastic amateurs for whom the chance to play St Andrews' hallowed turf is a dream come true. As well as seven courses, the Links also manages four shops, three clubhouses and a Golf Academy - all open for the public to enjoy.

You can always find someone who’s hit it off the course while you’re there. So always be kind and cheer them on! You know you’ve been there!Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 27, 2024
- yss97Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia1,912 contributionsGreat experience playing the Old CourseGot lucky in the Advance Ballot and got a tee time for the Old Course. The gloomy weather and light drizzle didn’t detract from the experience! The golf was great, treading the course where the pros have played. A caddie is recommended as there are many blind shots where it is not obvious where you have to aim for. And they are the best gauge of whether the ball is still playable where you hit it. With the amount of rounds played, the fairways were a bit divot marked in areas, but greens were well-kept and bunkers well-raked (😉). Overall a great experience!Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 22, 2024

The vast, well-manicured greens combined with the stunning coastal views create a serene and picturesque atmosphere. Watching the sun dip below the horizon over the iconic course was a memorable experience, and it gave me a real appreciation for the beauty and history of this world-renowned golf destination. Highly recommend a visit, even if you're not a golfer!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 23, 2024

Excellent course and set up. I would however avoid the official photographers. We paid £100 for four of us and all you get is a link to 16 photos that you have to print off yourself and no presentation folder. They took over 60 photos but you have to pay extra for the others. Use your phone!!
We had a caddy for the four of us and this was well worth the money.

This was our second trip to St Andrews and also our second round on the Old Course. This time, I found many fairways and played a smart and controlled game and broke 90. Again parred the 18th in front of a crowd!! Three of us played with a member and got out late and finished just before dark.
My son and another member of our foursome played the New and also enjoyed it.
However, there are few walks in golf like the 17th and 18th at the Old Course with the guests at the hotel cheering us(they must have started drinking early) and the folks surrounding the 18th applauding good shots. I think only the walk up 18 at Pebble can compare and I've been lucky to do the 7 times.

I was in total awe upon driving up to this home of golf. The Pilmour House provided me with displays outlining the development of the game and backgrounds of the greatest players to ever pick up a set of sticks (clubs). Artists from two St. Andrews schools (Madras College & St. Leonards were commissioned by Callaway and St. Andrews to design a 150th Anniversary bag that will be used by the 34 players in this year’s tournament. Larger than life design sculptures of the ten finalists have been placed around town to further hype this year’s British Open Tournament.
St. Andrews Links contains seven courses: The Old Course where golf was played 600 years ago, Castle Course added in 2008, New Course was built in 1895, Jubilee Course considered to be the most challenging course of all, Eden Course built in 1914 by Harry Colt has challenging bunkers and boundaries, Strathtyrum Course has a tough layout, and Balgove Course is the only 9 hole course and is used by beginners and children. “The Big Bag Trail” has been set up to assist visitors in exploring the courses and town.
I had opportunity to watch some of the players finish up during their practice rounds. I saw someone bang in a 35-yard putt and loudly cheered his good fortune. I was so excited when I received a cap doff in return that I forgot to take a picture. In addition, we crossed a wooden bridge over the thick high fescue growing on the dunes to access the wide esplanade beach that served as the backdrop for the movie, Chariots of Fire. After stopping in the Tom Morris Bar & Grill for a “cuppa,” I spent time in the Old Course Shop exploring exclusive apparel and collections of souvenirs before making purchases to bring home to family and friends. The prices were tre cher. But, what an awe-inspiring experience to spend a portion of my day there.

Played the New, Castle and Old courses on the winter deal. Courses were in fantastic condition, no muddy shie to be seen. Green were all very good and fairways were fantastic. Many bunkers were GUR on The Old, probably due to work being undertaken for the Open. Would have been nice if a few more were in play. All the staff were amazing, really welcoming and always helpful. The winter deal is very special, including The Old Course and a 2 course meal, it really is an unbeatable deal if you have kind weather. Can't praise all the staff highly enough, a real credit to St Andrews Links.
I'm sure we will return for our 3rd visit in the future. Thank you St Andrews for a truly memorable week.

Wow what a course!!! It was everything I hoped it would be a e more!! We had caddies as well and can’t recommend that highly enough, they are so helpful with the right lines and reading the greens - they also have a great story or two - you will definitely get more out of the experience with a caddy. We git our tee time through the ballot and were extremely lucky with the weather, I definitely hope I get to play it again!!

We had soup starters and shared a Club Sandwich with a side of Chips. While the sandwich was triple deck, as expected of a Club Sandwich, it was trimmed like afternoon tea finger sandwiches, so there was less of it, compared to other establishments. The Cullen Skink was not as good as previous visits and the julienne of leeks was undercooked....I felt that the potatoes had not been cooked in the soup!. A bit disappointing really as we have used the Links Clubhouse a lot since it opened. As a general comment, the menu appeals less than previously and the prices seem higher than before.....I also hear negative feedback from other locals, so that is a concern

We purchased the Winter Deal that included 18 holes on the Eden, New and Old course. We had a caddie for the Old (thank you again Scottie, you were great). FYI Scottie reckons that the Castle course is one of the best in St Andrews.
Absolutely brilliant and worth every penny. We had great weather for 2 days but, as per Sod’s law, it rained cats and dogs and blew a gale for the Old Course. A shame but who cares, it was great
The restaurant overlooking the Old Course is brilliant and a must. Shower facilities etc are first class and all included in your all fee.
Staff throughout were great.
Thank you St Andres Golf.
Staying in St Andrews can be expensive. Think about this .. we stayed in the Fairmont … not actually in St Andrews and the girls spa bill alone exceeded the golf fees with food and drink their costing a second mortgage. B&B and leave the family at home next time!!

An amazing experience! What a sight with the old buildings and the ocean sandwiched around this gem. I’m not a golfer but enjoyed watching others hit their first shots off the tee on 1, and then finish on the 18th. We went to the Himalayas and were able to have some putting practice on the 18 hole miniature golf course next to the no. 1 fairway. Afterwards we crossed a small street and jumped in the North Sea. It was an experience to remember!

Playing the New Course on sunny windy Monday was a lifetime highlight, perhaps even better than walking the Old Course which we had done the day before. I opted to play the New Course because the playing experience is similar, but the golf is less stressful because of the lower level of hype. Playing as a single with my wife walking with me I had reserved at Jubilee, but the New Course starter was able to get me on that course at a good time.

As a single without a reservation, you can either get in the que at 3am or enter the lottery at lease 48 hours in advance. We chose the 3am que, on a Friday to play the Old Course and squeaked in. It was well worth it!

I'm planning a short stay in St Andrews for my son's birthday (50) would love to try out a couple of the courses using the three day pass ticket offer. My son has an official handicap, but I have let mine expire as no longer a full time member of a club, due to work commitments. still play in all the office organised golf days. Do I need to have a handicap to play on the courses other than the old course.

I played three of the courses in August 2021 and the only one requiring a handicap certificate was the Old Course.

Are the Guided Walks available the week before the Open? We will attempt to get tickets to the Open in 2022, but if we were unable to procure tickets, we were hoping that we might be able to do the tour instead.

We are planning a trip to St Andrews, however we will have a 2 year old daughter with us. Would we be able to bring her along on the tour?
Written September 4, 2019
Yes, you can bring your child on the tour. Enjoy!

Is it worth driving to and checking it out? Will have my family with me so just a plain old site visit; no golf.
Written July 12, 2019
Yes, if you are a golfer and like the history, it is well worth the drive. There is also a great cathedral ruins there so much for the family to do as well.

or is nececessary a speial permission?
Written July 2, 2019

Hi, I have a Sunday planned for St Andrews. I'd like to get the obligatory photo on the Swilcan bridge. We are arriving late Saturday and staying overnight in St Andrews. There appears to be a lot of tours to St Andrews. Just wondering what time the buses generally arrive so I can beat the other tourists for my photo
Written April 3, 2019
They arrive all day long. I didn't see a crowd of people along the road next to the bridge when I was there.
Written April 3, 2019
Hello, we would like to play the putting course. How do you arrange that? Tickets in advance? How much are tickets? Where would one park the car?
Thank you,
Judy
Written January 27, 2019
Hi Judy. If you're referring to the St Andrews Ladies' Putting Club aka 'The Himalayas' then that's not actually a facility the Links manages. However, if you search for the St Andrews Ladies' Putting Club online you'll find all the information you require.

My partner and I will be visiting at the end of May 2019 and I'd like to know if we can walk the Old Course? Will there be admission?
Written December 25, 2018
Paul, you may even walk The Old Course every other day of the week, as there are public pathways through the golf courses. You'll just have to be mindful of golfers and flying balls if you're strolling on days other than Sunday for The Old Course. (The New Course, Jubilee, and Eden Course are open every day of the week.) If you go walking on Mon-Sat, be sure to stop and see Mike at the food and beverage truck parked near the 10th Tee; he has the best steak pies in the world!

Gracias!

Tour the course on your own for free every Sunday, go to their website to see how much golfing costs or call the pro shop. I'm sure a # is on website.
