I am a retired University administrator in the U.S. and looked forward to visiting St. Andrews University which is situated in the older portion of town amongst private homes and buildings housing pubs and boutiques. St. Andrews is the oldest of the four ancient universities in Scotland. This 600-year old is one of the top 100 universities in world, ranked for philosophy and divinity and rated better than Oxford and Cambridge in 2021. Research, teaching quality, entry standards and student satisfaction enter into these rankings. The buildings oozed with the history of this institution.

I stumbled on and so glad. Went through a small gate and saw these lovely buildings based around a formal square. Third only university in the country dating from 15th century

There are a number of sites for the University of St. Andrews in this ancient city but perhaps none more historic than the old quadrangle in North Street dating from 1423 with its medieval chapel on the south side, access to gardens opposite and with the names of former students commemorated on park benches as well as engraved in stone all around the perimeter of the central lawn upon which, unlike most Oxbridge colleges, walking is permitted.

A most unwelcoming place now, not the happy place of my younger years. Damp and mouldy accommodation where a blocked fireplace has not been compensated for by new ventilation. Mould growth in shower room must be threat to student and visitor health. Clearly profit put first rather than student welfare. Breakfast was not an inspection due to poorly cooked eggs.
Students tell stories of a petty dictatorship set up by ‘Aunt Sally’ and her little sister Claire?? Apparently students receive a weekly email telling them what they were allowed to do at the weekends. I thought this was a joke until I was shown one from a few months ago.
Academic departments sound good from the students I spoke to during my day and night here.
Shocked at the state of my old university.

Covid obsession on the part of the senior management can be seen just by looking at the front page of the website. ‘Aunt Sally’ sends students regular emails to tell them how to be good little boys and girls as if they are all five year olds. Summer manifestation of Covid obsession was the far from subtle coercion of a mostly healthy body of students into taking an experimental vaccine as protection from a disease less of a threat to them than crossing Market Street. Remember, Big Sister is watching you!

The university students where really snobby, the buildings are nice and it felt a bit like hogwarts ... but i preferred every other university ive ever been to work at/view (and that is 26 and counting) . Even the security staff commented they felt sorry for me having to talk to students.

What can I say - I actually spent 8 years studying here - the fact the University is all through the town adds to the atmosphere and makes it all the more special! Highly recommend

Scotland's oldest university. It is hard for us Americans to comprehend the age of the school. 600 years old and counting. Wow! Dorms overlook the golf course and North Sea, you couldn't afford a hotel room with their view.

Being a student of the University of St Andrews and seeing all that it has to offer I can truly say that the whole university is amazing and well worth a day visit. The museum of the Uni is free entry and all of the academic buildings are a credit to the strong history of the 3rd oldest university in the English speaking world. Please come and see!

This University was founded 600 years ago but is still in use. The by-word in St.Andrews is "Space". This town is ever so open and, from what I could see because we did not go inside, the University itself has none of those cramped quarters one sees in other establishments of this kind. Maybe that is why Prince William chose to study here. This University should be very grateful that he did so because at the same time many thousands of females enrolled there as well. I wonder why! Anyway, despite all the competition, we know who the winner was, Another famous feature of this town is the extensive golf links here. But probably I don't even need to mention that to any golf enthusiast! All the mini buses we used during our stay were good and the guides excellent but I think Gray lines - which we used on this trip - have the edge.
