This is the ruined remnants of a 16th century tower-house built under the sheltering sandstone cliffs within the chapel gardens , by the prominent Wemyss family . It’s on strictly private ground that’s not accessible, but you can peer through the railings to see it. However, you can clearly see the long , ornate , arched 16th century wall in front of it, punctuated by 3 wonderful circular towers that wouldn’t look out of place in a fairytale. It’s believed the one in the middle was probably a bastion, and the large one to the north-east was used as a doocot ( dovecote ). It’s a very tranquil & atmospheric area, with superb views over the Firth of Forth, and what really made our day were spying the large white seals 🦭 lying resting lazily on the rocks 🪨 on the beach in front of the tower.

Had a drive to West Wemyss with my wife yesterday evening, to have a look at the Tower house.
Easy and free parking down by the harbour.
The wall to the Chapel gardens can actually be seen from the car park, and it is not a long walk along the coastal path to get close to it, around one quarter of a mile.
No entry is permitted, but the Tower house can be partially viewed and photographed from the coastal path. I found it easier to photograph standing on a rock!
We were quite taken with the arched wall and its iron windows, directly in front of the Tower house, and forming the boundary to the coastal path. One of the towers, attached to the wall and facing the coastal path, was known to have been a 17th century wind pump which was converted to a dovecote in the 19th century.
This was a pleasant evening walk, not a soul about except us, and we ended up being fortunate to spot seals resting on a rock directly in front of the Tower house.
Don't forget also to check out the mosaics on the coastal path (before reaching the Tower house) - the swans, and the door and window!

While visiting the Harbour at West Weymss my eye was drawn to the row of iron windows in the wall of the Chapel gardens along with the ruin of The Towerhouse
Entry is not allowed but the Fife coastal path runs right past it and you can see the detail of the building through the windows . It is part of the weymss estate and lies 200 yards west past the harbour plenty of parking and only a 5 minute walk popular with joggers and dog walkers
