I took part in the "Scotland's Democracy Trail" tour in August 2016 and it was fantastic. The walk was very easy, a bit of a hill to start but nothing too difficult and we stopped and started quite a bit so there was plenty of time to catch your breath. Given the topic the winning aspect of this tour was that a lot of discussion took place and while we were a small group there was a broad range of perspectives. What started as something to fill in time due to other arrangements falling through worked out to be one of the most enjoyable tours I did.

As part of the Fringe, signed up for the Hidden Gardens of the Royal Mile tour - very enjoyable! A fair bit of walking and climbing, but worth it to see a series of charming hidden delights.

Took their "Scotland's Democracy Trail" tour. This was, of the dozens of walking tours I've taken in the UK and elsewhere, the best. Guide gave a detailed yet understandable history of the development of history in Scotland, from the earlier period right through the independence referendum of 2014. Walked up Carlton Hill and down to Scottish Parliament area. Walk took a little over 2 hours. The people on the tour, as well as the guide, were delightful-- mainly Scots walking and learning. We got into a fascinating discussion of the current Scottish independence movement and last year's vote, with the Scots explaining their positions for us (Americans). We had an exchange worthy of a true history tour. I highly recommend this.
