Neighborhood: New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

I visited here in June and loved it. It was a Wednesday which we thought would be rather quiet, however there were a few other people there. The music that was on was our kind of music and was a cosy place to sit for a few drinks. I will be visiting again.

Recently visited Scotland with a friend of mine who was on business, and I was on holiday. We ended up at the International Vodka and Beer
Bar ,by chance. We were doing a personal pub crawl, trying to hit as many local watering holes as possible when down a back dark alleyway we saw a sign for cheap Jager! I was instantly drawn in. The Jager bombs were for 4 for 10 pounds! The establishment was about the size of my living room back home!A small ,quaint, cozy and inviting space with wonderful electronic music in the background, and a attractive smiling face on the other side of the bar. We visited every day thereafter that we were in Edinburgh and the International Beer and Vodka Bar became our "home base" in Scotland!

Been in plenty of times and loved their frozen daiquiris. Went in with my mother who is a pensioner and her friend who were visiting for a weekend. My sister asked for 2 cocktails, a wine and a tomato juice for my mum (which they don't sell) and asked what size the measures of wine and spirit measures in the cocktails were and he asked why and she said it was because we didn't want to drink too much so the bar man said that he couldn't serve us as he wasn't allowed to serve intoxicated people. We were not intoxicated and his behaviour was insulting and humiliating especially for my OAP mother visiting me in Edinburgh for the first time. Absolutely disgusted and won't be back. Left and went to element along the road. Complete opposite in there - friendly service and lovely gin cocktail.

Hi Bridgey. After reviewing the situation with the bar staff involved and checking our refusal logs, the reason why you were not served on this particular occasion was because a member of your group had stated to our staff member that one of your group was drunk. In this situation our staff under the licencing act in Scotland, have no option but not to serve the person and they are legally no longer allowed on the premises. We are very conscientious of our service and wish to take care of all our customers and our staff are trained to follow the legislation in place in order to do this as effectively as possible. We are sorry you feel you will not return but we would like to stress that all of these cases are judged individually and in no way would we like you to not feel welcome in the bar again. I can see from your other reviews that you had been on a Gin tour that day and then moved on to Element and I hope this incident in no way had a detrimental effect on your day and I would like to stress again that in the future, you and your group are more than welcome in the bar.

Myself and my boyfriend came here for a few drinks as a change of scenery from our local pub. Lovely little bar with really friendly and welcoming staff and great selection of vodka. Music was fab and the place had a really great atmosphere. Even better the boss bought everyone a shot a Sourz towards the end of the night. That was much appreciated. Will 100% return and recommend. My boyfriend enjoyed himself that much he returned the following day with his friends.

Went in there for a quiet drink with my wife to be and then out of nowhere got told to leave because I had apparently grabbed her by the wrist 3 times. We were both in shock and said he was wrong but the "boss" said we had to leave. Unbelievable. Literally we had just been sat that there and done nothing wrong.

I hadn't had Tennents for years. Here it's ice cold. Great atmosphere and decor but crap music. That's probably my fault for being old. It's right next to Princes Street though and is definitely better than the shops ... Find it and try it.

Hi Simon. Thanks for your review. It's a shame you didn't like the music but we hope the Tennent's made up for it. We hope to see you again soon. The IVABB Team

What a great find this was. We live in Edinburgh and have not been here before. However one of us can't drink due to antibiotics. The barman concocted some very tasty tipples for us and was exceptionally courteous, polite and efficient. Music lively and not the normal overplayed tunes. Toilets very clean. Prices are not expensive with a large vodka range too. Will definitely be back. Very impressed 😃👍👍👍

Why haven't you taken this off trip advisor as you closed down 5 months ago?

Is it still open? In Edinburgh today and it's closed on a Saturday! In March they didn't have any beer on tap, supplier problems. Hoping its not shut for food, my favourite bar 😞
