We had such a wonderful time on our highlands tour! Andy was such a great tour guide and very knowledgeable about the area and country! It was beautiful and well worth your time and money. If we would have been able to do a longer tour we would have done it in a heartbeat. Needless to say.....we are ready to... More

Liz and I had a great time in Edinburgh and the Heart of Scotland/Mercat tour was a great part of that. Stephanie did a great job, built up the suspense with some shocking moments. Well done, thoroughly enjoyable. It's 2 hours long with a bit of walking involved, so remember to wear sensible shoes, the floors can be uneven and... More

We loved our day trip with Heart of Scotland tours! Keith was a fantastic tour guide - a great driver, a plethora of knowledge, and very flexible by asking the group what they wanted to do when we had some options for site visits before us. We were all excited to see Loch Ness, but also had the extreme pleasure... More

We though to take part to a simple tour to the Hadrian's Wall. Thanks to Andy, our tour guide, a very nice person, full of humor and passion and love for his land, we found ourselves immersed in the beauty of a gorgeous land and a very welcoming and warm people. With this tour we completely fell in love with... More

We were a family of 7 who were on a whirlwind trip through the UK and Ireland. We chose the Heart of Scotland Tour per the RIck Steve's Tour Book recommendation and because of the small size of the group (16) on the bus. Iain was our guide. He was great! He talked throughout the trip and also played some... More

We took Tour 2 (Stirling Castle, Highland Lochs and Whisky) on August 16, 2016. It was very nice tour with extremely kind driver entertaining us literally all the time with a lot of information about places we are heading too are passing around. The driver did his best to take maximum time to see all the points of interest of... More

Fantastic trip with our driver Mike who knew all sorts of history of the area. He also arranged for a dinner at a fantastic seafood restaurant in Portree, and showed us all around Skye. Can't wait to come back and explore more of Scotland!!!

I chose tour 4 because I wanted to see more nature and walk around instead of being sitting in the bus all day. It seems right but still very short stops excluding Blair castle, so I can give only 4 points from 5.

A must experience! Our guide Andy C. was a gift as much as the glories of rural Scotland! He is extremely knowledgeable about history, the land, and its people. The small group of max 16 is perfect, bus immaculate, accommodations friendly and inviting. Every detail attended to. A joyful piece to our 3 week stay in Scotland.

My husband and I went with my parents on the day tour through Fife, up to Saint Andrews. We absolutely loved it! Well worth the trip. Saint Andrews was beautiful and our tour guide, Niall, not only gave us pertinent information about the town and Scottish history, but made wonderful suggestions for places to eat and things to do there,... Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
