West Highland Way Part 1 - Milngavie to Rowardennan
Oct 2016 • Friends
Fantastic 3 day walking experience organised by Ross and his wife Ruth of Macdonald Walks. Well organised with superb accommodation for the 2 nights in between each day's walk. Ross is a very entertaining but informative guide with good knowledge of the area. A camp fire tea/coffee/hot chocolate stop, where no amenities were available, were most welcome and added to our entertainment. The best of attention paid to the needs of all abilities on the walk. Thoroughly recommend this business if you are looking for a Scottish walking experience. Looking forward to walking Part 2 of the West Highland Way next year, Oct 2017

Excellent 3 day trip on the West Highland Way
Oct 2016 • Friends
Just back from an excellent 3-day guided walk along 27 miles of the West Highland Way (October 2016). Well organised by Ross and Ruth with luggage transfers and great accommodation, as well as great scenery. Looking forward to part 2 next October.

Oct 2016 • Friends
Fantastic company and so well organised walk with Ross and Ruth. A section of the West Highland Way done with smiles ,laughs, all round good company and a sense of achievment.
Stop overs added to the wonderful experience which included stunning views throughout our 3 day journey.
Great weather good food ,excellent company, and good exercise, what more could you ask for. I shall definitely be taking part in the next section of the famous national walk.
If you are thinking of taking part ,look no further than Macdonalds walks,
Ross has the passion to make the experience unforgettable..

winter hill walk, Cairngorms
Mar 2015 • Friends
A brilliant walk led by Ross through Glen Doll and up over Mayer( part of the Cairgorm range ) was enjoyed by 7 adults of various experience. Ross was great fun, very attentive, strong ability to inspire confidence in difficult places (steep icy snow ). He added interest to the walk with teaching navigation skills and pointed out various items of interest on the way.he obviously loves nature - regularly pointing out some simple but profound wonder as we pass by. His timing and pace was excellent, none of us felt hurried, we had 2 stops for leisurely lunch overlooking the meandering river in the amphitheatre of rock and another coffee stop on our descent. I was surprised that we arrived at the car park in good time to get home before the winter night set in.At the end of the day as we packed our car boots, it was good to look back up the the distant summit and be proud of all we had achieved.

The Angus Glen - Glen Clova - Corrie Fee & Mayar
Mar 2015 • Friends
A trip to Corrie Fee never fails to excite. And with MacDonald Walks an added adventure of climbing Mayer a Munro was to be had. Being March patches of snow were certainly there above 550m on the path and on the hills. The wind had an icy blast and visibility at the middle of the day became poor, but Ross, our guide, was good and sound. He not only guided us as a group but took time to teach navigation skills to those interested. His manor and non judgemental attitude put you at ease with your abilities. It made me soak up the advice and tips. The whole day was thoroughly enjoyable. Lots experienced. I would certainly recommend MacDonald Walks to anyone or group.

Mayar, Cairngorms
Mar 2015 • Friends
My first visit to this region, I found the walk very well-organised. Scenery was stunning! Walk was from Glen Doll visitor centre, through Corrie Fee and on to the summit of Mayar, one of Scotland's Munros. The guide, Ross, was well-prepared, knowledgeable and really helpful. This was a fantastic walk, well-planned and, even in low visibility at the summit of the Munro (928 metres!) I felt very confident in Ross' mountain skills.

A great day trip to the Ochils
May 2014 • Friends
I've walked a number of times in the Pentland hills near Edinburgh and we wanted to go further afield. MacDonald walks provided a great day out further north in the Ochils.

The day and distance was flexible and Ross, who was leading the walk, was happy to alter the route accordingly. We ended up going further, as it was great fun.

The great conversation made the day even better.

Ross even had us doing Pacing techniques, which I haven't done for many years, and he's also been studying the effect of Magnetic North on weather so gave us a really interesting incite into this topic.

You get way more than just being lead on a walk, MacDonald walks also make the journey fore fun and interesting.

A great day out !

My first day in Scotland
Apr 2014 • Friends
I came to Edinburgh just the day before the walk so what I saw in the hills was my very first scotish experience. And it was an extremely good one:)

Our guide, Ross, was well prepared: he had all the necessary equipment for the walk and broad knowledge about what we were seeing on our tour. He was explaining everything in a way that everybody could understand it- which was very helpful especially for me as a foreigner.

After the walk we were in a restaurant where we could try typical scotish dishes (there was also vegetarian option:)) There was also coffee, tee, beer and... four kinds of whiskey! Everybody went on well with each other. I can say that apart from some rain in the beginning of the walk it was a perfect day:)

Do not hesitate to take part in MacDonald Walks!

MacDonald Walks- great walks!
Apr 2014 • Solo
It was great idea to go on this trip! Even if at the beginning it was raining, the guide was perfectly prepared for this kind of "surprises". We got waterproof cloaks and umrellas. I come form another country so for me it was great experience: a lot of fun and learning about scotish tradition. For me the best part of the trip was meeting cows on the road. As you can see at the photos below, it was really close us. Amazing:)
Important part of tour was scotish meal ( big big plus for vegeterian one). Probably you heard about haggis etc. We had occasion to try it! Walk includes also tasting of whisky. As my friend said it s like art. we were trying, comparing, testing whisky. It was a lot of fun! We had totally diffrent feelings about taste of whisky. Moreover, we tried 4 kind of Whisky, listening about their production, history etc.

I really recomend this tour!

beautiful scenary just outside of Edinburgh
Apr 2014 • Couples
I had a lot of fun walking with our guide Ross, he is so knowledgeable about the region, the walking activity, whisky tasting, etc! It is also perfect for foreign people, tourists, students as the guide explain everything very clearly and makes you feel comfortable. I'm Italian and I am very happy to have learned lots of new things about the Scottish culture. Give it a try, it's worth it!
