Neighborhood: Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.

Good lunch on the terrace
Mar 2017
Very good value for pub lunch and sunshine. We had good fish and chips as well as special offer burger and pint. Service was very slow but perhaps understaffed for a sunny saturday.

Homely friendly Hotel
Mar 2017 • Solo
The staff are friendly and very helpful .
The hotel is in a quite area just off the main route towards Princess street .
Unfountitly there is no free parking near this location and the parking wardens are very active ( parking ticket within 5 hours of arriving at this hotel )

A nice stay
Feb 2017 • Couples
Hotel staff were very helpful and accommodating. The room was large and clean although there was no mirror in the bedroom which was inconvenient. Quiet location, nice walk into the city centre.
The breakfast was tasty, however the waitresses working in the evening had their long hair loose when carrying the plates to and from tables.

Slow but superb
Dec 2016 • Couples
Went here for a spot of lunch on a recent visit back to Edinburgh. I used to go here regularly when at university as I used to live just around the corner. The bar is very clean and a good atmosphere. It offers good deals in term time for 2 courses for £10 (which they should really take down when the offer is not available!). But the food was good value for £. The service was slightly slow but not enough to be put off and the fondu was sublime! I'd definitely go back the next time I pop up for a visit!

dry food, dry service
Jun 2016 • Friends
burgers were awful, dry and tasteless with stale buns, staff were awful, one lady the manager i believe scowled "Aye in tesco" when I said to my friend that how crazy it is how rose wine is only £4 in store. Drinks are over priced and the woman at the bar could not measure.

Nice ambience while it lasted
Sep 2016 • Friends
I recommended the links bar for a Tuesday evening drink. All was going well. The ambience is very well suited to autumnal evenings; cosy and warm. When the 3 flat screens were switched on to a football match ( with sound) we decanted to the library room. Again, all very convivial until we warned we'd have to move for a party coming in. We moved to the back bar which was fine, if a bit chilly. Ten minutes later we were asked to move again as another group was coming in. All in all, the evening was fine but it might be an idea not to have sound coming out of all three flat screens ( not that many people in the bar appeared interested) and to have signs when an area is reserved. I'm not sure I'd recommend it again for a mid week drink despite the fact that it really is a nice bar.

lovely birthday lunch
Jul 2016 • Friends
This is a pleasant and nicely laid out bar/ eatery ( with rooms above )

a decent choice of menu at fairly reasonable prices, and tasty food.

I had been here but simply years ago, and it was somewhat different then, but now more modern twist- glass and wood, but still with cornicing on ceiling and other older features of architecture.

Everything very clean, and bar staff friendly.

slopped floors to allow chair access ( to a degree ) but like most pubs /eateries not the widest of spaces to manoeuvre unassisted ( however sure help would be offered if requested )

some families where present in another part, while we where there, and would say this is fine for behaved children in the afternoon.

Would definitely consider returning here sometime.
