Neighborhood: Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

    Scottish Pub
A small Scottish pub on High Street in Old Town that has nearly any whiskey you could want (I went for 18-yr old single malt). Food was things like a haggis tower, fish & chips, burgers.... and scottish desserts (think Whiskey Cranachan). A little over a dozen tables and a bar. We made reservations to be safe; glad we did. I actually tried vegetarian haggis; almost as good as the real thing

    Great Food, Great Whiskey Suggestions
This is a great pub. Food was very good especially the steak and Scottish meat pie. Carla at the bar was very good at recommending scotch whiskey to try. Wait for a table was reasonable and service was great. This was a repeat after I had been here in 2018.

    Great Bar
Whiski bar is a great little bar in high Street. They have a good range of beers and of course whisky. The food also is very good, excellent steak pie and very good haddock. My only criticism would be that they will not take bookings. This made it difficult for ma, as my wife is in a wheelchair, and also it was raining...so a reservation would make life easier

Thoroughly enjoyed my ‘Flight’ of 4 whiskies in a bar/restaurant decorated with fantastic curios & a plethora of whisky
Bar at the front and restaurant at the back with a whisky stash that would make a connoisseur’s mouth water. Being a long time between drinks, the staff were very helpful in advising which ‘Flight’ (whisky tasting) to try after describing the gin I like! Great selection and the food is worth a visit even if you’re not into whisky.

    Great Food and Drinks
Amazing restaurant bar on the Royal Mile with a huge selection of whisky and Scottish beer. The fish and chips were delicious, tasty haggis, great atmosphere especially when the live music is on. We will be back on our next visit.

    Fun for drinks...
The staff was very busy and really did not want to seat us, but they agreed to let us have a table. We had a whiski flight and the sticky toffee pudding. We loved the pudding- it was excellent. The live music was really good. The bar is a fun place to visit.

Terrible service and food from start to finish. This was our last evening in Edinburgh and the meal was supposed to round off a great holiday in Scotland.

The male front of house/bar manager was very rude and sarcastic. He was very unprofessional and completely unaccommodating to our needs. The service was also VERY slow - it took an hour and a half to eventually be served our main meal.

Most worryingly, my sister suffers from a severe nut allergy and the menu advice she received was totally inadequate. She was told she could only order two dishes on the menu. A member of staff brought over an allergy folder and I was shocked to see how limited the menu was for her. It makes me think that either the restaurant do not properly understand the ingredients that go into their food or they are simply too lazy to prepare it more carefully. Why couldn’t my sister order the chicken and vegetables dish or the steak and ale pie that she wanted? It made no sense...

We were very silly to wait around so long and pay such an extortionate amount of money for such low quality food. We all regret now that we didn’t just walk out and grab a McDonalds, it would have been a much better quality and hotter meal!

Please do not waste your money at this restaurant, there are so many better options in Edinburgh.

I booked here last minute for our long weekend trip to Edinburgh and just needed to have some proper Scottish food and my boyfriend loves whisky. We were sat in the back, interesting decor and felt Scottish, usually they have bands on i believe and it was a Saturday at 6.30pm, not sure if it was due to covid but there were no bands or music. At all. Not even background radio music or a CD playing which made it a little awkward. As you could just hear everyone else’s conversations and then silence. Needed some more atmosphere.
We were also seated right near a set of steps that lead down to which I can only assume was the toilets so we had people constantly passing us and walking up and down the stairs as we could see them through the windows.
They had a long long list of whisky for my boyfriend to try, and we decided to try out the haggis stack. I can only say it was deeeeelicious! I could’ve eaten the stack and then another! Haggis tasty, the potato and turnip just creamy and excellent and altogether a lovely dish. Staff were nice, just wanted to have a little more atmosphere such as some background music, the only exciting thing that happened was when the bar tender started shaking a cocktail in a cocktail maker. It almost felt like we were just sat in the back of a quiet pub as we were also sat near a group of kids just eating burgers and chips. Obviously cant help that but for a Saturday evening I just wanted something a bit more special!!
I will be dreaming about that haggis stack for a long time.

This restaurant was booked for husbands 60th Birthday meal as well as Burns Night. We had an amazing meal, very accommodating, as one of our guests didn't like the soup on the set menu. The waiters were very attentive, never allowing your glass to go empty, regularly bringing you water and ice (as per the initial order) and just generally being a great restaurant. Well worth the visit.

This appears to be a traditional pub which has aspirations of being a restaurant, therefore although the food is way above pub standard and you have to wait to be seated, the traditional Scottish pub feel remains. If you are considering eating here, my only advice is to ensure you thoroughly scrutinise your bill when you receive it. Our bill was inaccurate and staff decided for themselves how much tip they would receive before duly adding it without consent, we only discovered this after leaving the bar. Service was for the most part prompt and courteous and potentially we would have left them a tip. To discover a hidden charge after leaving the bar was disappointing and tainted an otherwise enjoyable visit.

Frequented this place a few times over the years and always found it a good stop for food and drinks.
Was gobsmacked at the menu prices now! How can a pub justify £34 for a bottle of Rioja (mediocre to say the least) and £14 for 3 bits of cheese!
Restaurant area was empty when we arrived and allocated the small table directly opposite the staff serving station 🤔🤔
Anyway, to sum up, overall and average meal but highly priced. Recommend The Queens Arms instead…

We visited in 2012 loved it so returned in 2019. Looked at the whiskey menu my husband choose his drink and I ordered an iron brew. Friendly staff. Drinks came as we were sat at the bar and we paid I said to my husband that seemed expensive for 2 drinks and we looked again at the menu I said iron brew must of gone up as the whiskey was listed with its price. We called the bar man over and asked showed him the menu and he looked on the till. The till was charging £8 more for the whiskey that on the menu. It wasn’t a problem he gave us the money back and said he’d sort it on the till. If every drink comes up different on the till and nobody questions it they are making a fortune as people don’t always notice. He said he’d sort it on the till but whilst we were their did nothing. We didn’t bother going again and won’t on future visits. Shame nice place but don’t trust them.

We love the Whiski Bar. Nice welcome, good table (we booked in advance). Service was attentive including some new staff learning the ropes but very polite and attentive. Food was delicious as in previous visits would highly recommend.

don't get me wrong this is a lovely bar with great decor that serves good food at good prices with attentive staff ..... but don't think this is "fine dining". It is value for money and if you want a good quality pub type meal in an attractive bar then by all means go there- you won't be disappointed

My fiancée and I stumbled across this place after a typical rainy evening in Edinburgh and couldn’t have been happier to find a venue that so perfectly matches the city it’s within. The trademark dishes of Scotland can be found here and an impressive whiskey selection to boot!
I had the Haggis Tower for main which was delicious and after our meal we shared one of their many whiskey tasting boards which arrived with a sheet with tasting notes for each whiskey. I’m planning on visiting again whilst staying here in Edinburgh

Visited here earlier today, we absolutely loved it. Although we booked the wrong one by accident, we still managed to get a seat. Look out for that! “Whiski Rooms” is a slightly different place.
Friendly down to earth staff and the atmosphere was good too.
I tried the “Royal Mile” cocktail - very sweet (if you like sweet)
Salmon dish was lovely, just perfect really + the mash it came with was so creamy - yum
Highly recommend
