I was not quite sure what to expect when I planned this tour with Paul only because the number of daylight hours in Scotland in mid-December is quite limited (this tour had to be managed in 6 hours) and also one was not sure of the vagaries of the weather, looking at the forecast. However, it turned out to be a brilliant and fun day. Paul’s pacing is always perfect. Tours with him are not overwhelming in which the days might be packed too tight and where one might get the feeling always of being rushed. No. Not so with Paul. His planning and sense of time is excellent. He selects the sights and the tours with care and customises them exactly per his customers’ requirements. In the end one gets the feeling of having been somewhere meaningful, and of having one’s senses enriched. It’s just right and it’s brilliant. Those memories stay with one for a long long time. I’m not going into the details of each place visited, nor am I going to wax lyrical about Paul’s sense of humour, his knowledge of Scottish history, current politics, the golf conversations, and the wonderful insights that he shares about each place visited: these things are all true, of course, and he is a truly excellent guide and friend. Very briefly, one saw the ruins of the Roslin Castle, the exquisite Rosslyn Chapel, the magnificent Scott’s View, and the enchanting and atmospheric Dryburgh and Melrose Abbeys. Lunch was at the classy Townhouse (Paul’s picks are perfect). I strongly recommend giving Paul and his partner Kelly a shout if you wish to discover Scotland. You will not be disappointed. Five stars, and that’s being stingy.

My wife and I were in Edinburgh for a week and wanted to take some day trips to see more of Scotland. We wanted to learn more about the history, visit some castles and see some of the places made popular from Outlander. After reading reviews of many options and reaching out to a couple different companies, we chose King Tours and we are SO HAPPY we did!
From the start, dealing with Paul was very easy and a pleasure. Our plan was to take three different day trips from Edinburgh. We let Paul know the things that we definitely wanted to see and he made some recommendations to help maximize our time. He also gave us some good recommendations for places to eat in Edinburgh as well as each of the areas we visited. Our first trip was to the Borders area, next came St Andrews and then the final trip was to Stirling Castle. On each day, Paul planned our trip to get the most out of the time while also allowing for some flexibility along the way. This was exactly what we were looking for.
Paul picked us up each morning at our hotel. Paul was very professional and so full of information. He shared so much history and related the story of Scotland to each of the places we visited. He mixed in personal stories and experiences to make the time informative, interesting and enjoyable. It was like spending the day with an old friend who was showing us around his country which he loved so much.
We had such an amazing time and learned so much about Scotland along the way. If you are looking for a private, personalized tour, I HIGHLY recommend King Tours.

Paul King of King Tours of Scotland has the ability to show you phenomenal parts of Scotland during the height of the tourist season while making you feel comfortable and not rushed. We saw the Hogwarts train tracks from a distance with a beautiful panoramic view just prior to the crowds arriving. He is rich in history with amazing pride in his country. I highly recommend him as a tour guide. Paul is honest, has integrity, is fun and has a great sense of humor. He is easily willing to take pictures for you. However, he is not good at making sure you’re hair is not sticking out in funny ways. At times, hiking poles were of value for this older woman in places that we walked. Paul was not particularly good at telling me when the poles would be of value to take with me. I managed regardless, and the scenery was incredible. Paul’s insights and knowledge of Scotland are worth every Sterling pound you will pay for his services. He’s able to create a tour that accommodates your individual preferences. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, if you’re an Outlander fan, if you are a William and Kate fan, or if you just want a tour of the uniqueness of Scotland, at the height of the tourist season, Paul knows the places to show you just before the crowds arrive. I was amazed at the rich history of Scotland and all of the famous people that come from this area that have made huge impacts on the world. He took us on two beautiful nature walks that were peaceful and quiet where the hiking felt like a spiritual experience. It was delightful spending three days with him.

My husband and I spent a week in Scotland in early September, and Paul King took us on a four-day adventure through the Highlands and the Isle of Skye. It was a wonderful, unforgettable trip! Paul planned our route but was always flexible if we wanted to stay in a spot a bit longer. He shared so much great information about Scotland's past and present. He was attentive to our interests and hiking abilities, and he took us to both popular attractions and hidden gems. He was also a fantastic driver on the many small country roads, and we felt very safe in his vehicle. We already know we'd like to visit Scotland again, and we'll reach out to Paul to help us plan the next adventure.

Paul is the epitome of what one could hope for in a tour guide. Paul made the planning process very collaborative as he helped shape my wish list of activities and sites to see into a realistic itinerary (We went from Edinburgh to Oban to Isle of Iona and then Staffa, to Skye, to Inverness, and back to Edinburgh with numerous stops in between). His knowledge of each place was superb and without him we never would have come close to fitting everything in without rushing through it all. This was our first big trip with a toddler in tow and Paul was wonderful in helping us experience everything while also keeping our little guy in mind. He shared viewpoints and sites along the way that we would never have known about otherwise. Paul is such a kind person, thoughtful when planning, respectful of our family and needs with a young child, completely knowledgable when telling stories of Scottish history, and generous when sharing his love of all things Scotland. We can't wait until our next visit to Scotland and would count ourselves lucky to be able to book another tour in Paul's company!

Our trip to Scotland with King tours was excellent. My wife and I were traveling to Scotland and we contracted with King tours for a four day privately guided adventure. Jamie, our guide, was a real pleasure to be around. He had extensive knowledge on the history of Scotland which added so much to our trip. I would definitely use King Tours again and recommend King to anyone looking for that special personal touch while touring Scotland.
Best regards

Paul is such an incredible guide. He is very knowledgeable about everything in Scotland and was wonderful to our family. We felt very comfortable being that it was a private tour did not have to share his van with others. Paul went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience possible! You can see Paul’s love for Scotland and his enthusiasm to share it with others. We highly recommend his services!

Paul was simply great. We had worked with him to figure out a good itinerary of Outlander sites from Edinburgh to see in one day. He was waiting for us when we got off the cruise with a spacious and smooth van. He was a wealth of knowledge and really enhanced each site. We had a lovely lunch at a local spot and got a glimpse into normal life in Scotland. This was the highlight of our 30th anniversary cruise and he really made it wonderful.

We did an 8 day tour with Paul of King Tours Scotland late August to early September, this was our 2nd time touring with him. From the first inquiry about scheduling until he dropped us off back in Edinburgh, he was a pleasure to work with. We had a list of places we wanted to see including 3 days on Orkney Islands and he did an amazing job of making our dream trip a reality. We also loved the extra places he threw in along the way he thought we'd enjoy and love (and he was not wrong). Paul has a wealth of knowledge about Scottish history and shared so much with us during our time with him. We were also incredibly lucky to be able to celebrate his birthday with him. If you are looking for a personal and memorable tour that is tailored to your interests look no further because Paul will take care of you every step of the way.

We had such a terrific experience with Paul!! We heard about his tour business through word of mouth and are very glad we booked with him. For planning, he was quick to respond and very helpful; he gave us feedback on how to best craft an excellent and personalized day trip experience based on our points of interest. Our pickup was easy, and the van was clean and comfortable. On our family trip, we visited/saw the Kelpies, Stirling Castle, Glencoe, a beautiful Loch, and some of the Trossachs National Park. We also stopped to feed hairy coos in Kilmahog! Paul has an immense wealth of knowledge that he shared on our trip, so we learned a lot in addition to seeing many spectacular sites. He was flexible with timing and made sure that we had ample time to explore at each stop.
Overall, we would definitely recommend booking a private tour with King Tours!

My husband and I are visiting Scotland in September and would like Paul or one of his colleagues to pick us up at our hotel and drive us to visit: Hadrian's Wall, Rosslyn Chapel or Melrose Abbey, the Borders. Proposed date is Sunday, September 15th. We are particularly interested in Hadrian's Wall. Is this a practicable scheme? Please let me know and provide an e-mail address for further communications. Thanks! Mary Hattie
