I live in the area so a little biased but Portobello a great place to visit at a weekend. Sandy beach with a prom lovely to walk along on a nice day. The main street in Portobello which runs parallel to the prom has a good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants. Come visit us !!

Went under my own steam from Falkirk to avoid a long boring sunny Wednesday at home. Took the 38 first bus & the Lothian bus ,penicuik I think, passing through the High Street.,about three hours each way with stops. Haven,t been since Midland Scottish did Day Tours,& remember the funfair & crazy golf, both gone..Now a solitary Amusement Arcade remains.couldnt resist... More

Portobello Beach can be reached straight from Edinburgh by taking a bus, it takes only appr. 30 minutes from the city centre. If the weather is nice Portobello Beach is worth a visit because of the view, although I found the shores a bit messy. In the city centre of Portobello you can find good bakeries as well.

Portobello beach is really nice. Sandy and very clean. It's a shame that there are are very few bars and restaurants . It is spoiled a little by the garish amusement arcade which is totally out of keeping with the surrounding buildings. A walk along the promanade has some lovely views across the bay

This is probably one of the best places to hang out on a sunny and warm afternoon in Edinburgh. Nice sand beach, goes on for miles, with a walk/bike path. There are some really nice cafes to have afternoon tea, a cold beer or a glass of wine and enjoy the scenery. Where else can you watch beach volleyball in... More

We were strolled down the promenade on a sunny but brisk day. Shockingly, there were people swimming! The water temp couldn't have been close to 60. With the wind, I was just fine in long pants and a sweater. I guess sunny days are far and few between here.

Picked a perfect sunny day for a wander along the beach promenade with my mum and niece. Well looked after and great to see that Edinburgh Council has spent money on it. Their gym and pool are straight onto the beach and are a fine example to period architecture.

Very nice beach just across the town. In summer difficult to find parking. Sand is so clean and well stretched. Toilets are on the far away end that is the only problem. You will find some small gardens near to the beach as well. Great to visit that place, At least their is some place where you find young blood... More
