We biked down to Portobello beach from Old Town Edinburgh and it was a lovely summer afternoon. Lots of local folk on the beach and some swimming and everyone enjoying themselves. We loved it for local culture and some seaside.

Once you've visited the museums and galleries and had enough culture why not visit Portibello Beach? A lovely stroll. If you want to check your fitness the distance is marked out as you go along the prom. The beach is clean and not too busy. Coffee shops, ice cream vendors etc on the prom. Play park for kids and some... More

We visited for a few hours just as a break from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh city centre. The bus service from the city is frequent and takes about 20 minutes. The beach and promenade are kept very clean. The weather was not very warm on the day we visited, however, the beach and promenade were quite busy with... More

Great reviews but was a little disappointed. Beach pleasant and views lovely but few amenities in terms of shop to purchase beach items - positive and negative I guess. Parking surprisingly easy.

Much underrated two miles of golden sand ideal for swimming or sunbathing. Victorian indoor swimming pool on front if as often weather is not ideal !

I spent two weeks at Queen Margareth University and I was looking for a place where to spend the sunday. I took the bus 45 from the University and got to Portobello Beach. It's plenty of little stores and the beach is clean. I enjoyed my sunday

Vast expanse of sand, nice boardwalk for runners, cyclists, rollerbladers etc. SOme good views, albeit the picture boards explaining what one can see are not comprehensive. Some nice >100yo buildings offset by some less pleasant newer ones.

In a sunny day you can see a beautiful sea, the horizon seems so far, you can just walk in the sand, no waves, and have a walk along the beach The 26 bus takes you there from queen st and i thin that from princess aswell No tourists there, thats so positive for me
