Neighborhood: Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

- jemArmagh, United Kingdom1 contributionBest live music in EdinburghGenuinely my favourite pub in Edinburgh! Dropkicks was recommended to me by friends and I'm so glad they did because it has become my go to pub in Edinburgh. My new favourite wednesday night is their westlife wednesday karaoke night which is always packed with very reasonably priced drinks. They have also started a pub quiz on sunday nights which is always a fantastic time. They also host the best live music in Edinburgh which creates a fantastic atmosphere! If you are over to Edinburgh for a trip this is a pub you have to visit!Visited February 2023Traveled with friendsWritten February 16, 2023
- DBog3 contributionsGreat CraicDropKick Murphys was our favourite bar in Edinburg! We may be a bit biased, being from Ireland and going to an Irish bar, but hand of heart We had the best time there! We did a class of cocktails making with Colin and Luke! They were absolutely amazing, and most talented cocktails makers, dancers and comedians we've ever seen. They are even amazing photographers and Tiktok makers too for our hen! We were well impressed. We would recommend anyone going there on their hen and definitely specifically requesting Colin and Luke for their cocktail making class!Visited April 2023Traveled with friendsWritten April 3, 2023

- Ali D1 contributionUnreal CraicLuke and Colin were absolute superstars! We booked a cocktail making class for a hen party - the staff were so accommodating - our original plans were cancelled with less than 24 hours notice Donal save our weekend organising a cocktail making class for us at the drop of a hat! The boys made such a massive effort with the hen and made sure we were all entertained. Cocktails were unreal, the atmosphere was great. Couldn't recommend DropKick Murphys enough to a group!!Visited April 2023Written April 3, 2023
- Patrick D1 contributionDecent Pub, Although used to be betterThis was my second time visiting this establishment. After my first experience in March I was mad to return. Two Irish men down the bottom bar were great craic and looked after other customers and myself. One even letting me watch a match on their phone as the pubs TVs were not functioning yet. My second visit wasn’t as pleasant. Most of the friendly Irish staff had gone and the prices had almost gone up by a pound. One of the staff who I believe was a manager charged me more than 4 pound more for a round of drinks than the previous staff had charged and was quite rude in telling me the machine was broken when I asked for a receipt. All in All, The venue is very cool but as the night goes on it becomes a bit of a sweatbox. A good place to meet Irish people but I hyped the place up too much to my pals based on my first experience.Visited September 2022Traveled with friendsWritten September 15, 2022
- Madeleine D5 contributionsExperience in Dropkick Murphy’sWe had a brilliant experience in Dropkick Murphy’s. It was a lovely pub with great views and screens for watching matches. We really enjoyed our time in this pub until the manager decided to uproot us from our table and chairs that we had arrived early to secure. I appreciate that he informed us that we needed to move from our table in line with his health and safety protocol, however perhaps he should not have set up the table if it was not adequate and we could have occupied another table for our leisure. Unfortunately when I tried to discuss this issue and liaise with the manager to improve customer experience he referred to me in a derogatory manner and for this reason I would choose to give my custom to other venues in the future. It is unfortunate that I have to write this mixed review as I was having a great experience until the manager treated me in a disrespectful manner. Hopefully the pub will rectify such issues and provide positive and consistent experiences for customers in the future. I wish management all the best and hope they flourish from this feedback.Visited March 2023Traveled with friendsWritten March 18, 2023
- Stephen M2 contributionsManager drinking while workingI went out for a few drinks with friends and enquired about a future booking to the manager. He was extremely rude and I noticed that he was drinking while working. Appalled by the customer service given and will not be returning. I’m all for people having a great time but if you’re working a shift where you are responsible for the running of a pub, you shouldn’t be drinking on the jobVisited April 2023Traveled with friendsWritten May 2, 2023
- Robbie2 contributions“Booth” BookingI booked a “booth booking” for this place for 7 people’s. We turned up on time and we were shown to our “booth” which was a tiny wee bench next to the stairs that could barely fit 4 of us. It also had a fire extinguisher placed in the middle to make the space even smaller. When watching the screen for the football aswell, we were told to move by the manager or owner so he could stand there and stand on our bench to watch the screen. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.Visited December 2022Traveled with friendsWritten December 19, 2022
- ciara4 contributionsGood craicFantastic Sunday afternoon spent watching the GAA and with a crisp sandwich for free (wow!). The assortment (photo attached) was second to none, nevermind the staff and drink selection which were both impeccable. I was served by the lovely Sinead who talked me through a tasty drinks menu and crafted me an even tastier espresso martini. 10/10 I will be returning!Visited May 2023Traveled with friendsWritten May 14, 2023

WOW! What an experience, got to Dropkicks Murphys last Saturday evening for my friends hen. Her bridesmaid had booked a cocktail masterclass and it was 100% the highlight of our weekend.! The staff were so fun from start to finish. The atmosphere in there was spot on and the live music was the best I’ve seen in awhile! Your missing out if you have not been to visit Dropkicks yet..!

I was in there last night and security took me out from the club coz I was complaining about amount of wine which they sold me.
I bought large glass of wine at the beginning and my glass was full. I went second time to buy the same and I received half glass. Staff from the Bar called security and they kicked me out. I have tried to explain security what happened but no excuss.
