Full of stags and screaming hen parties it's a lively place to say the least, the outside courtyard is great for chatting away from the music but I imagine much more comfortable in the summer, brrrrrr!

Be sure to catch Roulston and Young: Songs for lovers (and other idiots) at 3.15pm each day. Buckets of cocktails and two pint glasses to last through the performances.

I've tried coming here multiple times over the years and always been underwhelmed. It's always packed with tourists and students and the bar seems to be permanently understaffed... so so disappointed and there are far better and quieter pubs to go to in the city.

We ordered dinner from the counter and were only informed that there was supposedly a 45 minute wait for food after we had already been waiting for 45 minutes. Our food didn't arrived until half an hour after that so we waited for at least an hour and 15 minutes before getting our meals. The meals were mediocre at best... More

Service and quatity of food for price paid was well below par. Burgers ( which were quite small ) were not even accompanied by a side of chips. They were extra, they also came out cold and prior to the burgers. Would only recommend the courtyard area for its lively atmosphere.

We wanted to sit outside by the big screen but it was completely full. We found a spot inside close to a TV which was great for us. They had a good selection of beer, but not so much for non beer drinkers. The white wine was not very good, but we still had a great time!

Did an excellent job for the Guinness Pro 12 final, great bar and would recommend to anyone. Didn't have to wait long to be served, plenty different bars to be served at. Also went for breakfast on the Sunday and was also good, they where also setting up a food market stalls out side with some street food.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
