The area

Address
Neighborhood: New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

This was a wonderful hotel. The room was well appointed, with a fireplace, luxurious bathroom, wonderful bed and pillows. The best part was the service provided by Steve, Miguel and Nik. Miguel was very helpful with an IT problem. Nik, was right there to help us with our luggage, coming and leaving. Steve recommended a wonderful place to get a terrific Guinness and fish and chips. It was called Whigham's Wine Cellar. We had a most enjoyable stay.

A square at the end of Georges street in the new town of Edinburgh flanked by Georgian style homes. The Park itself had muddy spots in need of grass repair but overall was nice.

In the center of Charlotte Square is a beautiful small park surrounded by amazing Georgian buildings. It is as if you have traveled through time. The sculpture of Prince Albert mounted on a horse is attractive. In order to enjoy the Square you need to ride around it first, then get out and walk. Each building is rich in history the architecture is fantastic. For a student of architecture it is a dream come true. For a history buff, you would like to know who designed and built the structures and who were they built for ? For a film buff, you could definitely do period films with great detail. Peeking in the building you can see amazing chandeliers. This a special place to relax, enjoy people strolling and reflect on some amazing times.

Designed by famous Scottish architect Robert Adam, and believed by many to be his finest work, Charlotte Square is undoubtedly the architectural high-point of the New Town, which is a World Heritage site.

One of the finest architectural set-pieces in Europe, the square was designed with the town houses on each side of the square as unified blocks, resulting in large and most impressive frontages.

With the attractive gardens in the centre, Charlotte Square is well worth a visit and a gentle stroll.

The square is lined with many classical buildings however the interior itself does not have much other than grass and a large statue in the center.

This is an essential part of touring around New Town. Not busy -- few tourists, no buskers, thus unlike the Royal Mile. Gives you an understanding of why New Town was built.
