Highly recommended place

Come here often to walk/run. Very peaceful paths beside the river with chance of seeing wildlife in amongst the trees. Popular with dog walkers, families and those exercising. Can get muddy after rainfall but mostly okay if you stick to the main path. Close by to Blackford Hill, Blackford Pond and also Braid Hills. A lovely green space in the midst of the city.

Beautiful sights

I arrived by public lothian 41 bus and stopped at the Royal Observatory stop. You just walk towards Observatory road, walk by through the arch, follow the road and start walking towards the big anthena where the geodesical point is. The walk is not hard and the views are awesome! You can enjoy sitting on the bench up the hill. There are some paths to the other sidebut rain caught me and it was a little slippery.

Varied and interesting wild space within the city that sometimes sees rare bird species, nice gardens supported by local groups well worth a visit

Great views of Edinburgh

Visited Blackford Hill for the first time in a while I had forgotten how beautiful it is. Superb views of Edinburgh all round no matte which vantage point you pick. I parked in the small car park off Midmar road and walked the well marked path. The steps up the hill are steep but manageable even in the recent heatwave. The hill was busy with picnickers and those walking dogs, but there is no sense of being crowded out. The hill is well kept and clean and really on,y spoilt by the telecoms mast which is a must these days. Great photo opportunities at sunset as well.

Stunning nature just outside of edinburgh
May 2019 • Solo
Literally 15 minutes outside of edinburgh , this beautiful forest and nature reserve is hidden . Super easy to access via bus from the city and toilet facilities available at the hermitage house. Bird life, wild flowers, bubbling brooks and meadows are all in abundance. Definitely recommended seeing

Better Than Arthur's Seat
Apr 2019 • Solo
Crazy to think that one minute you are on a busy residential street and the next you are in the middle of this nature reserve. It is a huge area with lots to see. The view from the top of Blackford Hill is much better than Arthur's Seat AND much quieter too.

Blackford Pond is free, fun, and fabulous. We went for the swans, but saw so much more: ducks, robins, frogs, and toads. Many birds we could not identify and multiple dogs out walking with their people were icing on the cake. I highly recommend a visit, but please do not throw bread to the water fowl. It is not healthy for them or the pond. Take some cracked corn if you want to feed the ducks and swans. Toddlers particularly seemed to enjoy the pond and adjacent play area. The hill provides for wonderful hiking and views of the city.

A gentle stroll or a good work-out.

A great walk with stunning views of Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth from the top of the hill. The valley stretch is pleasant and easy. Good for young children. Plenty of room to run and climb on the hill.
