The area
Neighborhood: New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

The start/ending point of the hop on/off tours of the city. Handy alighting point for shopping in the New Town, lovely architecture and nice open area. Not necessarily a ‘must see’ area but lovely nevertheless.

This review is about the Royal Bank of Scotland Head Office, on the East side of the square. It is a lovely place to visit, with a beautiful dome ceiling and it has the story of the bank. Very much a museum piece in its own right. Don’t be put off, they are very welcoming and it’s an out of the way gem.
Definitely recommend

Lovely place. A definite stop over point and crossing the park to get to the Bus Station. For flights and travel. Beautiful happy place to be in especially on a sunny day, like today. There’s a cafe in the park. Convenient location to the High Street. Bubbly and lively spot. For solo travellers and other travellers.

St Andrew Square is an attractive public space at the eastern end of George Street in New Town. Construction of the square started in 1772 and was the first part of the New Town which was designed by James Craig. The Melville Monument takes centre stage which is in the middle of the square. There are fashionable stores and restaurants as well as financial institutions surrounding the square. St Andrew Square is easy to get to being a short distance from Princes Street and is also accessible by tram.

Had a walk through the square but was disappointed that there wasn’t an ice rink this year. The square was nicely decorated at night with a festive look.

This is a pleasant enough square and if you happen across it, then it is a nice place for a sit down and some people watching. But I wouldn’t make a special trip.

St Andrew Square is a really lovely square on the middle of the city which is quite nicely planted with trees and plants, which has a monument of an 18th century politician, Henry Dundas.

After leaving Princes Street, we headed towards St.Andrew Square with a mission to find the Natwest bank.
The square, open, beautifully designed, with water feature and several monuments was a peaceful place to walk through.
People happy here, taking a break, reading a book, a quiet place even though this is a busy area for traffic.
