We booked this tour at the last minute when we were in the city. I really didn't want to pass up a ghost tour on Halloween after all.. Agnes the witch was our guide and she was fantastic. Mixing humour with very serious topics such as the witch trials of Edinburgh and the plague victims' plight as well. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who's interested in learning about Edinburgh past while being accompanied by some ghosts..

"Dr Knox was amazing last night. Best tour guide ever xxx ;) I think I even fell a little bit in love with him."

I'm from Glasgow and love coming up to Edinburgh for ghost tours, me and my partner came up for our anniversary and booked on to this tour last minute last night. Although our tour guide was a little late he more than made up for it. I laughed so hard the whole way through (but was adequately spooked at the spooky bits). I think this tour was perfect for what we were looking for (not an absolute fright night, some interesting facts and ghost stories, lots of "edutainment" and some fun jump scares, if you're looking for something really spooky go for the later ones, they do the vaults in the dark by torchlight!). I would say this one is suitable for older children (our brave 10 year old would have loved it I think!) We went for the 6:45 and did see some kids in the other group, but I would double check on their site first.

There's a bit of walking, which was fine for us, but a lot is uphill, you don't need to be super fit and Dr Knox was good at keeping an eye on the group and stopping to let folk catch up (and also good at politely telling some people that accidentally joined off half way that they needed to go and buy tickets for the next tour). The tour also ended away from the post box where we started (I think to stop us bumping into the other group we started at the vaults and ended at the graveyard but I think usually it goes the other way around) but Dr Knox was kind enough at the end of the tour to answer any questions and give us all directions to get us to the transport/places we needed.

All in all highly recommend this for getting to know some interesting stories about Edinburgh, having fun for 75-ish minutes, if you're looking for really spooky and paranormal absolutely try out the later ones, but this tour is great for some light hearted fun, wee spooks and some small jump scares which are all in good fun.

One of the best guides we had in Edinburgh! Faye was super engaging and very knowledgeable on all things Edinburgh. The content was really interesting and factual and we really felt we learned a lot about the city and its history that we had not heard in the days previous. Most of the tours we looked into were ghost tours but we chose the daytime historical one and got the best of both worlds as it also includes a visit to the vaults. A special shout out to the lovely man in the ticket booth who chatted to us while we waited for our tour to start - we hope you get to visit Ireland as planned! We really enjoyed the tour and felt it was time and money well spent even on a short stay in the city - absolutely would recommend!

We booked the last tour of the night and Dr Knox did not disappoint, he went out his way to get to know his audience and was very interactive, his knowledge was excellent and had many storys to tell while adding in some humour which always helps. Even at the end Dr knox took time to answer questions from the tour where again his answers were informative and not rushed. If you want to learn some of Edinburghs history and are not easily offended and can laugh at yourself I highly recommend this tour. Well done Dr Knox great tour myself and partner thoroughly enjoyed it.

An interesting and unusual kind of tour. You get to see some underground rooms inaccessible otherwise and their related stories that true or not were definitely entertaining. The tour ended in Greyfriars graveyard with some more spooky tales. Our guide was 'Maggie Dickson' and she seems cherrypicked for the job, as she looks and speaks is as if she came straight from the 18th century in a time machine, even dressed accordingly. She probably does it every time, but when she asked if the group believes in ghosts and got so little positive feedback she replied: "You do know this is a ghost tour?". Great evening.

The so called 'underground tour' aspect of the experience was inadequate to say the least. It consisted of a visit to two connected underground vaults, one being an example of how the poor used to live and the other of how the slightly better off lived. The rooms were empty apart from a couple of totally unrelated props including tatty looking children's dolls, a fireplace and a skeleton sat at a table. It didn't help whith a door from one of the rooms entering into the tour organisers office, completely destroying the moment. Other than the excellent narrative offered by Hazel our wonderful tour guide, the vault experience added very little value to the experience. On the other hand, the above ground historical tour aspect was both interesting and informative. Hazel was a real pro, displaying a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm. To sum things up, whilst the vault aspect of the tour was very disappointing, all other aspects were good. The tour organisers need to reconsider how this tour is described, possibly referring to a 'taste' of how people lived underground, rather than an 'underground tour'. I suggest that anyone seeking more of an underground experience might like to look elsewhere to avoid disappointment.

The Red Witch was wickedly entertaining! Fun, interactive, and not scary. Stories of the really gruesome history might frighten young children, but it was educational and appropriate for teens! Lots of walking. A couple of areas require you to go down stairs. So if you have physical limitations, this might not be the best option. I would highly recommend Red Witch—her voice alone makes the tour distinctive and memorable!!
