"Dr Knox was amazing last night. Best tour guide ever xxx ;) I think I even fell a little bit in love with him."
I'm from Glasgow and love coming up to Edinburgh for ghost tours, me and my partner came up for our anniversary and booked on to this tour last minute last night. Although our tour guide was a little late he more than made up for it. I laughed so hard the whole way through (but was adequately spooked at the spooky bits). I think this tour was perfect for what we were looking for (not an absolute fright night, some interesting facts and ghost stories, lots of "edutainment" and some fun jump scares, if you're looking for something really spooky go for the later ones, they do the vaults in the dark by torchlight!). I would say this one is suitable for older children (our brave 10 year old would have loved it I think!) We went for the 6:45 and did see some kids in the other group, but I would double check on their site first.
There's a bit of walking, which was fine for us, but a lot is uphill, you don't need to be super fit and Dr Knox was good at keeping an eye on the group and stopping to let folk catch up (and also good at politely telling some people that accidentally joined off half way that they needed to go and buy tickets for the next tour). The tour also ended away from the post box where we started (I think to stop us bumping into the other group we started at the vaults and ended at the graveyard but I think usually it goes the other way around) but Dr Knox was kind enough at the end of the tour to answer any questions and give us all directions to get us to the transport/places we needed.
All in all highly recommend this for getting to know some interesting stories about Edinburgh, having fun for 75-ish minutes, if you're looking for really spooky and paranormal absolutely try out the later ones, but this tour is great for some light hearted fun, wee spooks and some small jump scares which are all in good fun.
