Great experience
Aug 2021
First visit on 20th August 2021 but will definitely be back. I have never had a nicer welcome to an Edinburgh gallery or attraction. Unprompted the young man greeted us, explained the set up of the exhibitions, advised where the toilets were and suggested the order we should walk round.

We had booked for the Brennan exhibition which was well laid out and interesting. The upper floor is a beautiful space where you can watch the weavers at work.

Pinks cafe gave us beautiful and reasonably priced food and again the staff were welcoming and helpful.

Escape the tourist grind
Jul 2021 • Friends
Superb off-the-beaten-track (but very central) artistic experience. The viewing gallery - which is a beautiful space in itself - gives you a fascinating view of professional weavers of the highest quality at work below you. There are two large exhibition spaces dedicated to weavings or tapestries, usually modern and excellently curated. There's a good bookshop and a really lovely cafe. Great place to escape the tourist grind for an hour or two.

A Good Day Out
Aug 2020
First visit since re opening and went to see the Conran to Quant Fashion exhibition. Well laid out, helpful and friendly staff explaining new systems, toilets and cafe open as well as Dazzle Jewellery exhibition. Book ahead for Conran but felt very safe with 1 way system and plenty sanitiser. Go- support them!

Much to see, learn and enjoy.
Aug 2020
We visited the Studios a few years ago and were delighted to see it has reopened, giving us the chance to enjoy a well researched and presented exhibition covering the period “ From Conran to Quant”. Whilst we have seen some of the items before, there were a number of new exhibits and the best part of an hour was easily filled. Then from midday we were able to access the gallery overlooking the present weavers and their work. Additionally there are some very good pictures and art works within the gallery, where even the building itself, a converted swimming bath deserves inspection. Fascinating and well worth a visit. At the present time the popular cafe is closed.

Thank you for visiting us last summer, and we are so glad to hear that you enjoyed the exhibition and our tapestry studio viewing balcony. In November we opened a new cafe, Pinks at Dovecot, so hopefully you'll have the chance to visit us again soon!

May Morris exhibition
Feb 2020 • Friends
Excellent venue. A well presented exhibition of the works and history of May Morris. Watching the weavers in the studio from the balcony of this redeveloped swimming pool was also of interest. There is also a good cafe serving fresh food and small shop.

Gorgeous
Feb 2020 • Solo
I went to see the May Morris exhibition, which is wonderful. Incredible how such tiny, perfect stitches were formed without the benefit of electric light and how such things of beauty have survived so long. The interpretation sets May Morris's work in the context of the arts and crafts movement. I had not realsied that Rossetti had painted her. The portrait is on display, as are photos and her own drawings and paintings, in addition to the marvellous embroidery.

The reception on arrival could not be faulted, welcoming, friendly and informative. As was the warmth of the farewell on leaving. It was so lovely to be able to take my time, wander through the exhibition, then sit afterwards to reflect on it, and to chat to another visitor who had also been really impressed.

The upstairs gallery is open between 12 and 3, permitting visitors to see the weavers at work in what was the old pool area. There is no charge for this. There is so much light and space and such a creative use of it.

Great exhibition
Feb 2020
We went to the May Morris Exhibition and, since there was a tour on Tuesdays at 1 o'clock we went for that. Being a bit early, we went first to the Spirit of Morris photographic exhibition on the Tapestry Studio Viewing Balcony. A fine exhibition with excellent descriptions of each. The view of the tapestry studio from the balcony going round all four sides was well worth seeing. There were only five of us on the lunchtime tour. It was very interesting with an exceptional guide. The leaflet suggested 30 minutes for the tour but it lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes. So glad we went and we'll be back to see other exhibitions later in the year.

We Loved It
Jan 2020
A textile museum would not normally be top of the list for us, but we're so glad we went! It was a lovely experience, both watching the artisans form the old pool gallery and taking in the temporary exhibition. Friendly staff, cool vibe, it was a great choice.

Fantastic exhibition space
Jan 2020
Recently visited with my husband for the May Morris exhibition. He used to swim there as a child years ago and it brought back a lot of memories. This is now a charming exhibition space and venue - one of my absolute favourites in Edinburgh.

My husband was a little disappointed that we couldnt get in to the cafe as it was so busy - I visited a few weeks ago with friends and thoroughly enjoyed it so he wanted to try for himself! It's just another excuse to come back once the tapestry gallery is back open!

We love hearing visitor's memories of when the tapestry studio was a swimming pool, thank you for sharing! We are sorry to hear that the cafe by The Pantry was a bit too busy when you were here, but as you note, it makes for another excuse to visit!
