Neighborhood: New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

His name was Gergo and he was really fantastic and very skilled. I was so delighted with the treatments and his professionalism that I’ll likely return. As a “spa day” the Bannatyne health club itself isn’t that great and not really geared up to “spa day” vibes. the building is old and very run down (remind me of being at the local community pool or a high school). It needs sprucing up and it does dull down the vibe of a nice spa day. The spa place itself on -1 is nice and relaxing, small but does the job. The relaxation room was lovely and it was quiet so we had it to ourselves for about 45 mins after the treatment. I also was surprised to pay for the robe and towel (it’s probably written on the site when I booked the voucher and I missed it but feel like it’s an unnecessary charge that is becoming less and less popular across other places. Overall I’d say it’s worth a visit if just one or two of you and looking for something local, not too expensive and grab a lunch somewhere in town afterwards.Visited February 2022Traveled with friendsWritten February 10, 2022

- Bettina KEdinburgh, United Kingdom26 contributionsQuiet spa day for twoWe had a spa day for two for my husband's birthday. Being a Tuesday and coronavirus, it was very quiet, which made it very relaxing. Nice long swimming pool, big hot tub, spacious sauna and steam room. Clean areas everywhere. We also had massages which were perfectly relaxing. Laurita and George (that wasn't his real, that's like the English version of his name, my husband just can't exactly remember, sorry) were very accommodating and had good hands. We chilled in the heated chairs in the relaxation room after. Tempted to stay there for a nap but we headed home. Very nice few hours which I would be happy to repeat.Visited March 2020Written March 20, 2020
- 684rossc3 contributionsTerrible Customer TreatmentI was a member at this gym for around 5 years and recently tried to cancel but was advised that to end my membership I needed to hand in written notice (seems ridiculous that in 2023 they only accept pen and paper to cancel). Despite this, I still handed in the written notice but was advised I would need to pay for another full month membership due to their 30 day cancellation terms. I decided I was going to cancel my direct debit to avoid being charged for a gym I wasnt using and they have now passed the £36.00 debt onto a debt collectors (ARC UK?) and they have since added further admin fees on top of this. Seems overkill for one month payment and not the way to treat a long term member of the gym. As for the facilities, the place is in desperate need of a refurb. The changing rooms also constantly smell, especially the shower area.Visited February 2023Written February 15, 2023
- Grazyna WEdinburgh, United Kingdom4 contributionsRude and unhelpful staffTerrible customer service. I had constant problems with Bannatyne employees. They do not respond to emails and do not call back when you asked them for. They are only nice when want to charge you but after that they ignore their customers. General manager completely ignored me. Alex from sales was extremely rude when I tried to talk to him. Only one person was nice there and it was Stephanie W.Visited November 2020Written November 15, 2020
- MyAriaEdinburgh, United Kingdom56 contributionsRude receptionist over the phoneIf I was allowed to leave less than 1 star I absolutely would. We’ve been here before and was delighted to get a voucher from my work. Unfortunately on the day I received a phone call that lead to the death of a family member. A friend that was meant to go with me tried to get it changed but even after telling the person over the phone that there was a family emergency, the person was rude and abrupt. Well I’m sorry if the death of an immediate family had inconvenienced you but a little bit of compassion and understanding would have gone a long way. Unprofessional and really just uncalled for, and completely unacceptable for a business.Visited February 2020Traveled with friendsWritten February 14, 2020

She then took us to the spa where we were greeted by the staff who were also lovely. The spa itself was so relaxing i received a facial and a scalp massage which was excellent. My friend got a neck, shoulder and back massage which she really enjoyed. Overall was a great experience and we will be back.Visited January 2020Traveled with friendsWritten January 14, 2020

Had a 30min sweedish massage booked. Arrived 30mins early, sat in spa area and was eventually taken in 20mins late (after lots of faffing around with the spa staff trying to find our booking), despite us having booked it months prior, sharing the confirmation email with them and our check details in 2 days prior.
The treatment lasted nearly 10mins and when I challenged it, the staff merely shrugged their shoulders and said they were back to back time wise and there was nothing they could do.
Save your time and money and go to a properly organised spa venue...

There was a little mix up with our booking time but the manager was straight on it and she managed to sort it all for us and made sure we had a relaxing spa trip. Would highly recommend.

Loved Alexandra for my treatment. Very technical and brilliant. The pool is a long way from the changing rooms and the jacuzzi was freezing! Otherwise I recommend the treatments and the actual pool.

I had an array of issues at Queen Street in relation to my membership, all of which was ignored and stone walled. I eventually got to speak 'management' which was a guy called Alex who was extremely rude, wouldn't listen to a word I said about the mistake made by them and didn't take any responsibility. Eventually I was able to get help that confirmed I was correct and enough investigation didn't take place.
The gym is fine but small, the changing rooms aren't super clean but acceptable and a lot of staff seemed nice enough but just chaotic.

Booked a spa day expecting a relaxing afternoon and had to leave after 50 minutes. Didn’t even make it to the treatment.
Avoid this place if you are expecting a nice spa day. Sure it’s fine if you just pop in for a treatment but not geared up for a spa day as you would expect.
Issues
- No nice meet and greet from the reception staff at the main entrance.
- Asked to pay for towel and robe, which is just ridiculous when booking a spa package.
- When eventually found the spa area reception, they seemed confused as to why we hadn’t been given bands for lockers and had round fobs.
- Changing room on completely different area to spa and had to be asked to be shown where to go. Usually when at a spa they show you around.
- Entire place was cold, not ideal when wandering round in gowns
- Only 3 beds in the relaxation room and was full, so unable to use it
- No cafe
- No nice areas to wait before treatments
- Entire place is very tired and bit grubby, not like the pictures.
Some of the above things would have been ok to get over, but combined with everything, just not up to a decent spa standard. Knew it wasn’t going to be a super posh spa, as you aren’t paying those prices, but it’s the little touches that make a spa day regardless of if the place is getting a bit past its best.
If you are a group above 1-2 people this isn’t the spa for you, there is no where nice to sit and relax between treatments. Just not very welcoming at all.
If you go expecting a leisure centre with a few treatment rooms then you won’t be disappointed but having compared to other Bannantynes this is no where near the same standard.
So glad to get out of there!!

We had a booking through a third party that we made for today, but the booking company made for 2022? I know, so did not show on bannatines system, we were frustrated as we could not have our treatments, however Alex the reception staff booked us in for swim jacuzzi steam room and a discount for someone else’s mistake which we were very happy with as it’s a short break in this city post covid and 50th birthday, so hats off to Alex and staff thank you…

Hey, I'm interested in booking a spa day at bannatyne in Edinburgh but I can see there are two spas in Edinburgh.
Has anyone used both? If so what do you prefer?
City centre or new Craig hall?
I have only been at city centre so can't compare sorry

Is there on-site parking?
And is the spa considerably busier on a Saturday?
Thanks!

Good morning
There is no onsite parking but there is street parking that you have to pay for. Saturdays can be busy as the weekend is our busier day for spa days but isn't overwhelmingly busy. I hope this has helped.

Hi there
We have a jacuzzi, a steam room, a sauna, a swimming pool and a relaxation room with hot stone mosaic beds.
I hope this helps.

Sorry, don't know the answer to this one, perhaps give the club a call? M
Do I have to bring my own towel? Booked in for a spa day for two, includes 3 treatments.

According to Bannatynes website, Towels cost £2.50 to hire whiles Robes & Flipflops are £3 each. After looking at other reviews saying they are very tatty I would take my own.
