Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

A Really Nice Cinema Experience
Aug 2019
We visited here specifically as there was a film on in 35mm we wanted to see, which was a great experience, and I didnt think it would be, but was better than digital.
there is a pub attached to the cinema, which if grand for per cinema drinks, the seating is really comfy and offers plenty of leg room with wide seats. this sort of seat would be VIP seating in many chain cinemas. the sweets are reliably expensive.

Vintage cinema

Old cinema in tollcross. It's usually very to decently quiet and has a programme including author and thought movies programme. It could need some refurbishing though,, and it's not exactly cheap. May like it or not.

Sometimes,Always,Never

The Cameo cinema is situated in Tollcoss area of the City,a 10/15 minute walk from Princes Street
Cinema has been a fixture on the City for many decades it is a 3 Screen Cinema Screen One is spacious, comfortable seats, the other two Cinemas more intimate but all three are great spaces to watch a movie
I saw the film Sometimes Always Never a great British movie well worth trying to see
The prices here are higher than average but worth the extra money as it is a Cinema full of heritage and tradition
Cafe/Bar are also worth visiting for a Beer/Coffee
Highly recommended

A cosy drink, and a homely cinema experience
Nov 2018
A go to for films, food, or a quiet drink with a book in Edinburgh. Would go to here over a commercialised cinema anytime.

Good film, friendly staff
Nov 2018 • Couples
Went to see 'Wildlife' and was struck by the very different (and, dare I say, more friendly) atmosphere at the Cameo than that at Edinburgh city centre's other small chain cinema, the Filmhouse. The staff at the Cameo were very helpful, the bar warm and quirky and even the clientele seemed more relaxed and chatty. My only criticism was that the staff did not shut the doors after the film had started until someone from the audience went to get them. However, it was a pleasant experience overall and reminded me that Edinburgh offers a choice of cinemas that offer not just mainstream but a selection of wider retro/foreign films as well. Lucky people of Edinburgh.

Cinema 2 film A star is born
Nov 2018 • Family
It is my 3rd visit and possibly my last at this cinema. Went there with my son who is a student because of the convenient time of the screening. They gave us middle seats at cinema 2, if you can call it a cinema. It only had 3 rows. Nice seats. Luckily we were seated at the second row in the middle. The side sits at the price they charge... No thanks. The people going to the restrooms had to pass in front of the screen!!! The room was like a home cinema setting at an expensive IMAX price! Cost £23.5 for 2 tickets....

Cinema at it old best

If you are after an all the trims and flashing lights cinema experience, well this is not your place! If you want to watch a film in a comfy environment, that brings an authentic cinema experience this is your place!
Internals do need a bit of investment as it does look like it is patched up quite a bit.
