Address
Neighborhood: West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Amazing facial - I have tricky skin, and Kaman could not have been more accommodating of that. It was the most luxurious and indulgent experience, I absolutely loved it!

Very welcoming and helpful staff. Lovely facilities especially the thermal suite and outdoor jacuzzi pool. Treatments and treatment rooms were excellent.

My one piece of feedback is as a 5 star hotel - the Sheraton need to invest in a tidy up and power wash of the concrete steps up to the spa. It creates such a negative first impression to a truly lovely interior experience. Steps up inside the building also need a deep clean too. Glass doors need a regular polish as they looked grubby.

Lastly - with us booking several treatments for a ‘spa day’ there needs to be an option for teas/coffees and food. Even if hotel offered a limited ‘room service’ type delivery it would be so much better than currently offering nothing but tap water. This has gone on too long in my opinion and cafe area is sitting wasted.

Great and thorough deep tissue massage (Swedish) with very knowledgeable and experienced masseuse. Facilities are top of the line and great Espa products. The massage room is on the cold side and AC could be adjusted a bit to make the room a bit warmer.

Wow an amazing thermal spa experience. The outdoor hydrotherapy pool is amazing. All the different sauna, steam rooms and shower types are amazing. The staff are amazing very professional, personable and nothing is to much trouble. I come out of the spa feeling amazing and very refreshed. I look forward to trying the spa facility at my next visit.

the hydro pool is good, usually hot but the outside view is of ugly buildings, so it's nothing special. the pool area is boring, just a basic pool, a bit tired with, again, no interesting view. the things in the thermal spa aren't anything advanced that they are worth the day rate. there's a couple of saunas, some steam rooms and 2 showers with 'sound' but it's nothing you can't get elsewhere for cheaper, even in central Edinburgh really.

the joining fee is extortion (£250 each) so only join if there is a deal on and monthly membership fee (£130+) is expensive but worth it if you consider the day rate has recently gone up to £75. so go twice a month and you've made your money back.

the reception and gym staff are lovely and helpful!! but the spa director (Scott) seems particularly unkind and has unnecessarily caused me more grief and stress than i've experienced in a long time - long story short - after (currently) 33 days of back and forth (mostly ignored emails/phone calls) they still owe me £217.

a veritable drop in the ocean to them you would think based on prices!

when asking for an amendment to my membership their duty manager (a few months previously) had misunderstood what i had meant and given me the wrong form (i assume she had not do so maliciously). having notified them, as soon as humanly possible. they refused a simple fix (a refund and correcting my change request) and in my opinion, continued to be deliberately unhelpful.

they also repeatedly used the term 'gesture of goodwill' when discussing money i have already paid them which is just really annoying and frustrating that adults don't know what that phrase means!

overall - wouldn't recommend.

Overall an average experience.
In any correspondence no one advised that my voucher would be required, having already given the voucher number on the phone and by email. Luckily the recetionist then looked at my booking and could retrieve the voucher number. I thn heard her say to others as they arrived 'oh I don't actually need your voucher'. So it might be good to remind this at the time of booking and not once people have arrived at the spa, if the voucher is actually required.
The reception and cafe area were very tired looking and the reception desks had scuffs and marks all over them. I though that would have been taken care of during the recent refurbishment. The doors behind reception also looked like they needed a good clean with splash marks and splodges down them. I used the bathrooms they were also tired looking with no hand towels or hand driers. I had to use loo roll.
The therapist was great and I enjoyed my massage. I had the aromatherapy body massage. But it was not worth £140 for 1 hour of massage and 20 minutes of consultation, selecting oils and getting dressed and undressed. The room was also very cold. The therapist informed me that the air conditioning had recently been serviced and it was cooler than usual. She even noted how cold my feet were despite being wrapped in a towel. The relaxation area was the same and that was me fully dressed and under a blanket. So I didn't stay in there for very long.
I'm due back in a few weeks to use the thermal suites but my excitement about that has diminished after my experience with the treatment.

A lovely space with all mod cons and good £ value, BUT the design of areas and lack of adequate signage is very disorienting for this spectacle wearer - which I imagine is the case for many mature visitors.

I had to choose between not wearing my specs (near-sighted) and being effectively blind, OR wearing them and being blinded by the steamy atmosphere.
(Alongside being half naked and barefoot, since my flip-flops disappeared).

I would have felt less 'blind' and confused and lost moving between areas if there had been some (colored?) arrows and fairly large signage, on the floor, for example.

Everything was fabulous from the minute we walked in the door. Beautifully clean and easy to use every facility. Glad we went early as it became busy by noon (by this we mean 5 in the pool and 8 in the enormous outdoor jacuzzi!) So relaxing and such a treat.
