- CalBristolWeston super Mare, United Kingdom2,130 contributionsVery quiet!A large and rather deserted shopping centre which you have to pass through to gain entry to the Royal Yacht Britannia. Many of the units are still unoccupied and one of the biggest was Debenhams, which has now closed. It has a rather confusing layout stairs and escalators but the signs to the Royal Yacht paydesk are all quite clear. It is also a good spot for a rest and refreshment after visiting the yacht and there are several cafes and coffee shops open for business. I sat in the M & S Cafe (good coffee and sandwiches) for some time and saw only one or two people in the centre.Visited September 2021Written October 4, 2021
- camcait4211Edinburgh, United Kingdom21 contributionsThey ought to source betterI met a friend for coffee today. We've met there many times before and I usually drink latte. Today I had a very large "Premium Filter Coffee". If this is premium coffee, I'd hate to taste "Budget Coffee". It wasn't as bad as Pret a Manger but it was rough. The staff were fine and courteous but Costa really ought to source much better coffee.Visited January 2020Traveled with friendsWritten January 18, 2020
- bsandrsPortsmouth, United Kingdom23,076 contributionsNot at Its BestA damp day in mid August is probably not the time to get the best from this shopping outlet, but we were in Leith to visit the Royal Yacht and subsequently lunch in the centre and then go to Vue cinema. It could well be that on a sunny Saturday the place is buzzing, but footfall was low, many places were closed and eating was severely limited. We did find a branch of Costa within a shopping outlet, but by the time we arrived after our boat tour, with little else available, there was quite a queue. However, the bright spot was the cinema. Not busy, but well appointed with the latest seating. We, of course, understand the difficult conditions that are in operation at present, but the general perception of the Centre and surrounding area was quite depressing.Visited August 2020Written September 9, 2020

We went to this shopping centre mainly to see if we could get a glimpse of the Royal Yacht Britannia in the harbour. We parked in the multi storey car park and got a superb view for where we were parked. Getting into the shopping centre itself was more difficult with the lifts not stopping on all floors and the direction signs weren't the best. The centre itself was very dark and dreary with not a lot of shops and cafes. It needs some attention

i love ocean terminal. It certainly needs some work done but there it’s lots of things in it that are good for kids and nice restaurants. It has a lot of good options for kid things to do and it helps a theatre group called ‘A-team productions’ by giving them a space to work.

Tired very tired looking building that needs some much needed surgery. Houses the excellent Brittania but that’s about it.

I will never visit this place again. Basically A poorly designed shopping centre which is not unlike others found in numerous new developments of the 70s. A soulless eerie feel to the place which hosts the super commercialised American style fast food outlets and small chain stores you can find in other dreary towns. Unless you are willing to pay £xx for the privilege of seeing the Royal Yacht there is no way to see it or access the dock side. Curt staff directed us to a second floor car park where we could glimpse the stern ( back end) . No concessions for pensioners either.

A Nothing Sort of Place with Rude Staff
May 2023
We had been in Edinburgh for a couple of days and found most places dog friendly. Whilst I was going to see the Royal Yacht Britannia my wife was going to take the dog and look around. Firstly we entered the Centre (the no dog signs are not clearly visible) and got all the way the to Britannia Ticket Office before a security woman arrived and gestured to the lovely lady in the Britannia Reception that we couldn’t have the dog on the premises so we duly left. So financially the Centre has lost out. Additionally if I had have gone to see Britannia there was nothing for my wife and dog inside anywhere.
Moral of the story is you can’t take your dog into the Ocean Terminal but they can employ security staff who have been hit with the ugly stick

Walked through Ocean Terminal to reach the Royal Yacht Britania.
This is a rather sad shopping centre with plenty of vacant shops.
Not many people around.
Had the feeling of a failed experiment.
Nothing to really attract you to this centre.

Other than free parking while you are visiting Britannia there’s not much to see here, lots of empty shops, a lot of work is needed to save it.

Visited here years ago and it was a busy shopping mall with lots to see and do. Now it feels abandoned and void of any life or excitement. M&S has gone and so have many of the shops.
We went here on the weekend and expected it to be busy but instead it was empty and forlorn.
Sure there were tourists going to Britannia and we went for a childrens party but apart from that this place is dead.
So we went in and walked along empty thoroughfares past empty or closed shops. It was open but felt closed.
Think the mall in Day of the Dead but without zombies, or shoppers or even staff. Oh there were cleaners so it wasnt completely empty but the fact that they were wandering around washing floors when the place should have been heaving with hungry christmas shoppers is rather telling of this places sad decline.
Maybe this was because of the tram works and the buses being diverted so maybe this place will come back to life when the roadworks are finished... hopefully as its a nice place.

If you want to experience shopping in a place as cold as Lapland in edinburgh then go to Ocean terminal shopping centre. Hardly any shops left open and the food places like Zizzi restaurant which has lovely food is having to rely on a couple of floor heaters. The staff are cold and the customers (3 people)! Are freezing with coats on while rushing their food down to leave as quickly as possible. I could not hold my cutlery without gloves on ! My red wine was cold like white wine from a fridge, awful. My food was cold in 5 mins. This is due to the management/owners of the entire centre who.have a policy of no heating because of high costs at this time like all of us. But really, who are the losers, the poor businesses and staff like at Zizzi and some great shops still sticking it out in this dreadful Tram destroyed area like the rest of areas affected by this 10 year drama of Trams which were never required in this lovely city. This place is condemned due to the Edinbgh council trams dream and the management of this centre making visitors as uncomfortable as possible and staff eventually with no jobs. Disgraceful.

I will be bringing my daughter to University of St Andrews in September. I am looking for a good place in Edinburgh (airport we arrive at) to get her setup with the goods she will need well living at the university for the next 4 years. Is the Ocean terminal the place to do this? Looking for Bed bath and beyond type stores.

To be honest - you will get better views and much more variety for stocking up your Daughter if you travel to Princes street.
You are in the shadow of Edinburgh castle as you shop on Princes street and you also have Princes street gardens to visit for a time out from shopping (the gardens are only across the road from the shops) Ocean Terminal is more of a Local shopping centre for
people who live in the area and not really a destination for shopping unless you plan to go see a film of visit the Ship.
Hope this helps :)
