Professional Kilt Makers
Mar 2020
Visited mid March to have a handsewn kilt made and obtain all the other obligatory elements of the dress and day outfits. Angela Johnston did a lovely job measuring and helping me through the many choices to be made. Circa a two hour process depending on how quickly one can make decisions. Highly recommend. You get what you pay for and they do quality work which will last. The staff arranged to ship everything to the US and removed the VAT at the point of sale. Very easy process. They have a small museum inside the showroom as well.

Great service and great product

I visited Kinloch Anderson to enquire about having a kilt made. Service was not pushy, the assistant took my measurements, answered all of my questions, discussed jacket options with me and went out of his way to be helpful. I did subsequently order the kilt from KA and it has been delivered following a mid-fit in London. It is a beautiful item and had lots of positive comments first time I wore it. I definitely recommend them.

Was not expecting the Royal treatment and walked out with an heirloom
May 2019 • Couples
I have a distant Scottish heritage through my family and was thrilled to know my family (Taylor) had a tartan. Only two shops showed up on a search, one on the Royal Mile which looked a little too touristy and Kinloch Anderson. When we walked in, we were not sure what we were up against, however the presence of Royal Warrants started to set our minds at ease. Then Joanna showed up and after a bit of discussion I was being measured for my highland outfit. She went through the process, had me try on several things, walked both of us through what meant what and helped us pick the right items for my outfit. Plan on spending a ton of time here and it WILL BE WELL SPENT! And another review was right - this is real money for real quality. We still speak of this experience several months later and look forward to going back for my wife's tartan skirt fitting and my refit after my weight loss!

If you need to dress like Prince Charles fine. If not ...forget it

Only one employee inside. Left as soon as we arrived without a word of welcome. Some stuff very nice, but only if you need to dress for an exhibition of old style Scottish fashion. Difficult to get prices on many dresses. Almost impossible to get information on where were produced.

Great service

Make no mistake, you are not going to walk out of here without spending some real money. But you pay for quality and your receive quality. The staff were very helpful in locating my family tartan and helping me with everything needed to get my full kilt outfit together. If all you want is a souvenir- this is not the place for you. Come here if you want an heirloom.

Worth the price

One of Edinburgh's National Pastimes is a game termed, "Fleecing the Tourist." If you have not had this rare priviledge, I suggest a visit to one of the kilt shops located on The Royal Mile or CannonGate. Here, your money will be permanently separated from your wallet. For this privledge, you are allowed to carry home a Highland Outfit whose fit is poor, in a material weight far too heavy for your residence location, all accompanied by cheap pins, badges and assorted unnecessary accessories. Welcome to the kilt fleecing experience!

In contrast, Kinloch Anderson is a rare Edinburgh area example of a reputable Scot clothing firm. Yes, they are expensive. Be advised, however, they will guide you through the process so the end-product properly fits. The necessary time is invested in each customer as they build long-term relationships. The purchase of Highland clothing requires time and patience as one becomes familar with the various pieces and their traditional usage. Your investment of time will be rewarded with a top shelf appearance manufactured to last many years of usage.

In summary, Kinloch Anderson is one of the best.

Joanna was so helpful explaining all the features of the trousers we wanted to buy along with recommending the correct jacket and waistcoat.

Can’t wait to see the full outfit now.

Very helpful and quite interesting
Aug 2017 • Couples
My wife was after kilt material as she is distantly Scottish. I was expecting quite a dull, possibly aloof, shopping experience but it was actually quite interesting and the member of staff, Liam, really helpful, going out of his way to give detailed information on my wife's ancestry kilt. They only sell quality products so don't expect bargain prices but you are certainly getting Scottish made authentic items (they supply the Royal family). The museum is a small room and probably only 10-20mins worth of visiting time but does have a porthole into the factory floor so you can see the staff working. Probably not one for children but worth a detour if you are in the area
