Eat walk Edinburgh offer two Food walking tours. One explores Edinburgh's Old & New towns and the other the lower half of the Royal Mile called the Cannongate. On each of these tours you will visit unusual/hidden restaurants, bars and shops, taste dishes specially prepared for you. Sample individually selected drinks (beers, wine and whisky), talk to the chefs/owners and discover the history behind the properties. The Old & new town tour (1pm-4.30pm) which has five food stops with two wine tastings and a single cask malt whisky tasting ensuring you will not need to worry about dinner in the evening. The Cannongate tour (10am-1pm) enjoys six stops including a Bloody Mary cocktail and breakfast canapes to get the tour off and running. By the end there will be no need for lunch. The Old & New town tour was recommended in BBC Good Food Magazine as a "Don't miss" thing to do in Edinburgh. Delicious magazine also has it down as a must do.

Very glad we chose this walking/eating tour of Edinburgh. The starting point was very close to our hotel, so it was so convenient to just walk over! There was one other couple whom we joined and it turned out they were at the same hotel. The food items chosen and places we visited were all excellent. It was definitely worth... More

Good way to explore Edinburgh. Alan was very good guide to Edinburg's food and culture. We visited restaurants and other places which regular turist would find hard to find.

This evening food tour was very enjoyable on our first night of a long weekend in Edinburgh. The food was very good. Our guide gave us a good overview of the city and its history. It was a nice way to spend an evening. We even went back to one of the restaurants the following night for dinner. I'd recommend... More

It's great that you have done a review of our tour Taking the tour at the beginning of your holiday can help you to get a feel for the city and also to show you some alternative restaurants. So pleased that you went back to one of the venues for dinner, exactly what we hope will happen. More

We enjoyed our tour - we never would have found these tasty spots. Our host was quirky and fun. If you are visiting Edinburgh, try this tour early on to get a perspective on the neighborhoods, then go back and re-visit some of the restaurants!

The food was consisently of a high quality and each place we visited was welcoming. The guide was excellent, clearly very knowledgeable as to both food and Edinburgh, friendly and informative without being pushy. Walking was leisurely.

I had never heard of the Eat&Walk before, and I found it by pure randomness. I am really glad I did. The host took us through a wonderful experience in the culinary world of Edinburgh, perfectly put together with a starter, snack, dinner, cheese and dessert. All dishes were served at different locations, with a wide range of interesting history... More

Our group only ended up being our family of 6. Alan was easy to find & took us on a great guided tour. He was also accommodating to a pregnant lady & some dietary restrictions that we told him in advance. You learn some history of Edinburgh & also get to taste the local fare. We definitely recommend!

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
