Eat walk Edinburgh offer two Food walking tours. One explores Edinburgh's Old & New towns and the other the lower half of the Royal Mile called the Cannongate. On each of these tours you will visit unusual/hidden restaurants, bars and shops, taste dishes specially prepared for you. Sample individually selected drinks (beers, wine and whisky), talk to the chefs/owners and discover the history behind the properties. The Old & new town tour (1pm-4.30pm) which has five food stops with two wine tastings and a single cask malt whisky tasting ensuring you will not need to worry about dinner in the evening. The Cannongate tour (10am-1pm) enjoys six stops including a Bloody Mary cocktail and breakfast canapes to get the tour off and running. By the end there will be no need for lunch. The Old & New town tour was recommended in BBC Good Food Magazine as a "Don't miss" thing to do in Edinburgh. Delicious magazine also has it down as a must do.

Our tour was a perfect introduction to Edinburgh. The opportunity to try traditional scottish food, blood pudding and haggis was wonderful. I was fascinated as our guide took us back in time, he told us the history and stories surrounding many places in Edinburgh. While at The Whiskey Society, we sampled different types of whiskey and how the process works.... More

A fabulous introduction to Edinburgh!! A walking-eating-drinking-educational and very enjoyable tour. Alan (tour guide) walked us through the old town first, providing historical (and funny) stories as we ate the pre-selected tapas paired with a drink at the various locations along the way. Then we did the same in the new town part of Edinburgh. At the end (over 3... More

Alan puts on a great tour. The combination of great food and drink in unique restaurant or bar settings and historical narrative of each place or area makes for a wonderful 3.5 hour tour. It's just the right amount of food to get a good taste without making you feel stuffed or heavy. We liked the Edinburgh tour so much... More

We were on the Brunch tour with Julie. We had decided to interrupt our festival comedy outings with a walking tour taking in plenty of food, and boy was there plenty of food! There was just the 2 of us so it was a personal guided tour and made sure we tried everything that was put in front of us,... More

We really enjoyed our tour. Alan was very informative. We have been to Edinburgh many times and still learned something new. The food was very yummy and so were the drinks. My youngest daughter as an allergy and we told them ahead of time and very accommodating !! I highly recommend it. We walked about 2.5 miles

We throughly enjoyed our evening with Allen. He went out of his way to move the time back half an hour to better accommodate our travel needs. Besides providing us man;y tastey treats at many interesting restaurant, Allen knew the history of Edinburgh. We especially enjoyed the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. Take an evening and enjoy Eat Walk Edinburgh!

May I start by saying this tour is a fantastic idea but for me was spoilt by the guide for reasons I'll try to word briefly. There are 3 drinks and 5 mini food courses on the tour. I am a food lover and I feel the courses showed off Scottish staples and produce adequately. The restaurants had friendly enough... More

I am sorry you did not enjoy the tour especially as it was only you and your friend on the tour that day. I am therefore somewhat surprised that you did not feel your guide enguaged with you. Your guide has taken many tours with people all over the world and as you say lived abroad for over twenty years... More

Our small group meandered through parts of Edinburgh on a beautiful afternoon. Our guide entertained and educated us throughout the journey. The food and drink stops were very good also. Definitely a worthwhile excursion that I would recommend to any (adult) visitor.

Organised this tour for a group of friends visiting Edinburgh, some for the first time but others well familiar with the city and it's sights. Experience with Alan organising the tour from afar was excellent and despite pretty ordinary weather, we all absolutely loved the tour and the food and drink experiences with Julie as our guide. Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
