Eat walk Edinburgh offer two Food walking tours. One explores Edinburgh's Old & New towns and the other the lower half of the Royal Mile called the Cannongate. On each of these tours you will visit unusual/hidden restaurants, bars and shops, taste dishes specially prepared for you. Sample individually selected drinks (beers, wine and whisky), talk to the chefs/owners and discover the history behind the properties. The Old & new town tour (1pm-4.30pm) which has five food stops with two wine tastings and a single cask malt whisky tasting ensuring you will not need to worry about dinner in the evening. The Cannongate tour (10am-1pm) enjoys six stops including a Bloody Mary cocktail and breakfast canapes to get the tour off and running. By the end there will be no need for lunch. The Old & New town tour was recommended in BBC Good Food Magazine as a "Don't miss" thing to do in Edinburgh. Delicious magazine also has it down as a must do.

Julie proved to be an excellent guide as the information that you would expect from any tour of a city you had not been to before was combined with visiting a number of interesting venues to sample one course of a meal at each place. As a not particularly adventurous eater it was a revelation to be "forced" to eat... More

Thank you so much for doing a review of our tour. I glad you enjoyed it and although we do encourage people to try new things you can opt out if it really is not to your taste. Sounds like you've been converted to haggis! Our guides are aware that parts of Edinburgh can be hilly but, as you say,... More

The Eat Walk Edinburgh tour with Alan is absolutely phenomenal! Alan did a wonderful job showing our group around the city and telling us about the history of Edinburgh. We met our guide in Hotel du Vin, he guided us to some nice restaurants with tasty food. But his guidance could be improved, he ttalked not so much about the food, but talked in some restaurants more with the owner than with us.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review, I am sorry you did not fully enjoy it. What you describe is not how are tours are normally run so I have written to you personally to discuss this further. We will use your feedback to ensure we improve our tours for future guests. More

Spent our first evening doing this eat and walk tour. It was a great way to hear some of the history of the city and to get a feel for the layout of the city. The food and drink stops were excellent. The tour gave us ideas of where to go back to both for food and places of interest.... More

The tour started in a cosy warm snug and leads you through parts of Edinburgh as you stop along the way to sample traditional Scottish dishes. Don't believe the stories -haggis and black pudding are delicious. The tour is informative and the food is yummy. Enjoy!

Don't miss this interesting and yummy way to explore Edinburgh. Our guide (sorry I forgot his name) was fantastic - we came away with an expanded understanding of this beautiful city and it's history and an appreciation for it's cuisine. Lovely afternoon.

A knowledgeable guide, Iian, took us on a leisurely stroll around the Edinburgh streets. The stories are fun, they give a picture of the Scottish capital through the eyes of a Scot. Food stops are great, we went back to one the next day for lunch. Haggis in the Scotch Malt Whisky Society was a highlight.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
