Edinburgh Food & Drink tour

The Edinburgh food and drink tour explores both the medieval Old Town of Scotland’s capital and its elegant Georgian New Town.

There are five food stops en route, three of them with a drink tasting. All of the stops have been carefully chosen not only to highlight Scotland’s iconic food and drink but also because the venues are much loved by local residents. This food tour takes you off the tourist trail.

As well as delving deep into Scotland’s natural larder, the Old & New Town food tour illustrates Edinburgh’s past and present; its history and the day-to-day reality of 21st century living in such a historical city.

Guests will be given audio headsets to listen live to the guide as you walk at your own pace or stop to take photos. Tour size is limited to 8 people so you all get a chance to get to know each other on the tour.

The Edinburgh Old & New Town food tour takes place Monday to Saturday at 1pm & Monday to Thursday at 5pm. Private tours, are available at other times.

My partner and I went on the Eat Walk Tour of Edinburgh during September. From the outset, Alan was extremely friendly and easy to contact regarding booking. The tour had a number of Covid-19 Safety features including ensuring each tour was private (with no extra cost), headphones to maintain distancing and hand sanitiser. Our tour guide Julie was fantastic, she was bubbly with lots of fun stories and facts to tell while we walked from venue to venue. The food, wine and whisky was delicious and we visited places that we would never have come across on our own. Our tour overran by about an hour but Julie was extremely accommodating and did not seem to mind one bit. Would highly recommend - it’s a fantastic day out and a must do when in Edinburgh. Our favourite day of our week long trip by far!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review it is greatly appreciated. Pleased you enjoyed your time with Julie. Normally we have up to 8 people on our tours, but as you say due to COVID-19 we are only running tours for people travelling together. Means you get your own private food and drink tour around the Old and New Town of Edinburgh.

Alan was very knowledgeable in all matters regarding Edinburgh's history and adapted his tour for the knowledge of his audience. Despite driving rain he was upbeat and perseverant. The restaurants had to be adapted due to COVID-19 driven closures yet all were great, with helpful staff and good food and drink. Di'Vin was so enjoyable we went back two days later.

Alan is very knowledgeable! We were extremely jet lagged but barely noticed once the tour got started. Strolling around the city while stopping into various restaurants to taste Scottish fare was fun and informative. We also stopped by historic sites on our way to the next location. It was lovely to 'eat and drink' history. We were given headsets that way we could hear Alan well while moving from site to site. A city with very rich history!

Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality We had an absolutely fabulous tour with Alan! As our tour was August 1st (right after the re-opening of restaurants following the COVID-19 lockdown), we weren't sure what to expect, but Alan was a great guide. We had a private tour with headsets for the audio and the entire tour felt very safe. We visited 5 restaurants and the food and drinks were delicious. The tour accommodated me as a vegan as well as our 5-year-old daughter who unexpectedly needed to come along due to child care complications. Although I'm sure each tour varies, we had Scottish salmon, single-cask whisky, local cheeses, haggis, locally distilled gin and sticky toffee pudding + ice cream! We didn't need to eat for the rest of the day :) Alan told us about historical highlights, detailed information about the foods we were eating as well as pleasant conversation. Would recommend as a must-do for anyone visiting Edinburgh!
