We were pr-ed to come into here...when we arrived...we realised that we were the ONLY people in here...and understood why they were so desperate to get us in. When we got in, we went up to the 3rd floor where we were pleasantly surprised that the music was great and the lady DJ was fantastic! Playing such a fantastic array... More

I go to the Edinburgh fringe every year with friends and we always go to this bar. There's several different floors and they always have the best free comedy shows with different acts on each floor all day. The drinks can be expensive but that's to be expected and doesn't bother me at all. Staff are nice enough and it... More

Being served by a silent, po-faced personality bypassed barman, risked getting our 2016 festival off to a dour start. First drink arrived in a cracked glass which we pointed out. - Without apology, it's contents were poured into another 'pint' glass, the left overs of which were sleuced away. Needing a little background on one of the draughts on offer... More

Went earlier in the month for my friends hen night which I had organised. We booked a booth for 20 and paid £160 up front for drinks. When we arrived (around midnight) we were all made to wait outside (despite all being registered for queue jump), we were informed we should have arrived earlier (no mention of this when booking)... I visited Espionage on a hen do last weekend. The venue was perfect for a hen do. Lots of variety of music and a great vibe. However I am still gobsmacked by the rudeness of the bar staff. I ordered 2 gin and tonics and when me and a friend tasted them it was obvious that the tonic was off.... More

We visited Edinburgh for the purposes of a hen do, having booked the party bus, which was brilliant our final destination being Espionage. During the time spent here one of our friends went missing with some men she was chatting to. The bouncers helped us to locate her! Fortunately she was fine but it could have been much worse but... Booked the basement Mati Hari rooms for my birthday party, from the word go the party atmosphere was amazing. The whole package was so good, free drinks for all my guests. DJ was brilliant and kept the party going with karaoke, buffet was great, definitely would recommend to any one. All my guests were so impressed with the whole event.... More

Poor ambiance, crowded and arrogant bouncer who kick people out at will...some of my friends have been requested to leave the premise and were unable to get back their coat. When we came back at 3am (as requested by the bouncer) coats disappeared...and we realised that quite a number of ppl were in that case. I would not be surprise... More

Visited this club on 25th March. Really nice venue and the interior design is amazing with the differant styles. But all that is ruined when one of your friends is thrown out for no reason. Now i know what you are thinking. "Everyone says that they done nothing wrong when they get thrown out of a bar but they must... More

Reserved a couple of tables for my husbands 30th. Upon arrival we were taken straight to them and shortly presented with two free bottles of prosecco from the management. Sadly, hubby had had far too much and needed to leave for home after an hour. But not before the girls had a great time on the dance floor with classic... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
