About
With its calm, tranquil atmosphere, and stunning views across the Firth of Forth, Lauriston is the perfect place to escape from the bustle of the city centre. Enjoy a woodland walk, a visit to our award-winning Japanese garden, or step back in time and experience what life was like in an Edinburgh middle-class home at the beginning of the 20th century.

Lovely tranquil walk in this hidden gem and one of the best scones I've had in long time in Mimis in grounds. Clean toilet. Views lovely... Highly recommed

Well worth a visit
Jan 2020
Not strictly a castle. Park your car at the entrance and walk down the drive to the house.Take the tour of the house and admire the views over the River Forth to Fife. Walk in the extensive gardens, but choose a good day weatherwise. Also take the short walk to the Japanese Garden, which celebrates the twinning of Edinburgh and Kyoto. The gardens are free to wander around, but there is a charge for the guided tour of the house.

Lovely Place to visit
Jan 2020 • Solo
I caught the 37 Silverknowes bus from Princes Street to the terminus near the castle. . It takes about 1/2 hour then there’s a 10 minute walk. I didn’t go inside the castle as i went in the morning and they only do tours at 2p.m. in Winter, you cannot walk round the house yourself. No matter the grounds were lovely even in Winter with great views of Cramond Island The Japanese Garden was nice as well I didn’t think it would be great in winter at all. The rose garden was neglected though. They had outside toilets and people could take their dogs except into the Japanese Garden. There us a pond near the house but unfortunately that was a bit neglected too but overall good for walks.

This was a great event. Bit different from anything I have attended before. It was well organised all the hosts were great and made the whole experience enjoyable. Only got sneak preview of castle so I can’t wait to go back and have proper look round the castle! The grounds look great as well ! Well done

"Homespun" Christmas
Dec 2019
A treat, as ever, to spend the day in the impressive mansion that is Lauriston Castle - with the added option of a guided tour. But the real purpose is to craft Christmas wreaths, very ably guided and encouraged by Margaret (and helped along with lots of tea/coffee/cakes). All the raw materials and tools are provided and a special joy is the wonderful variety of greenery. The final products are always amazing in their variety and absolutely unique.
Wouldn't miss it!

Crafty Christmas!

Once again an excellent day of wreath making with either 2 green ones or an ivy swag for mantlepiece or banister. All materials including beautiful ribbons and decorations provided as well as music and cakes! An excellent day.

Christmas wreath making
Dec 2019 • Friends
What a wonderful Christmasy day today at Lauriston Castle making Christmas wreaths. Margaret made us feel very welcome and supplied us with tea/coffee and cakes aplenty. There was a treasure trove of ribbons and embellishments to help decorate our wreaths, as well as an abundance of greenery from different types of trees. An excellent day set in the beautiful Lauriston Castle. Thank you to Margaret, Mike and the gardening team for helping to male it such an enjoyable experience.

Christmas Wreath Making Class
Dec 2019
Most enjoyable crafting workshop. Margaret the course leader is an excellent team player. The selection of craft items available to create your individual wreath is outstanding. It was like being in a treasure trove. Cake, coffee, tea and mince pies were available in plentiful supply. Excellent value for money. Loved my day here. Thank you for such an enjoyable experience.

Fantastic Halloween Terror Trail Event
Oct 2019 • Family
We have had a fantastic time at every event we have attended at Lauriston Castle and their Halloween event this year was no exception. My two kids 4 and 7 along with their friends had so much fun following the clues, solving the riddles and finding the hidden items around the grounds. This along with the brilliant crafts, scary story telling and amazing magician made for a very fun and memorable morning. Oh and not to forget the chocolate goodies they came away with! Thank you to all the staff who make it such a fun event for the kids!
