Spend hours looking at history, understanding what life was like here hundreds of years ago. see how this have changed, over the years. Helpful staff willing to help and or answer most anything. Make sure you book parking when you book ticket or it could be a long walk for someone.

An excellent opportunity to get some amazing photographs. However if you head towards Grassmarket be aware that this route is not ideal for those with mobility issues wishing to access the castle!

Castle Rock

With the Covid pandemic. Edinburgh Castle was close to visitors.

So when reaching the top of the Royal Mile. The best thing to do on the castle grounds was enjoy the views of Edinburgh and the skyline.

It was also what many other visitors were doing while keeping s social distance.

We also looked at the various statues around the castle grounds.

Great views from the top.

It is incredible that the famous Edinburgh Castle was built on top of such an enormous rock which was created by a volcanic explosion 350 million years ago. It is a steep climb up to the castle but well worth the effort.

Weather terrible, but Castle amazing

As it was Februaury when we visited the Rock, it was no surprise that we had torrential rain and downpours. This didn't spoil our time therethough.

We took our granddaughter to the castle as she wanted to go and her mother wouldn't take her. At 14 years old she is old enough to understand the loud bang of the 1 O'Clock Cannon.

The Castle offers a service for wheelchair users to transport you and your family to the different levels inside the Rock. This is a really useful service and coes free once you have purchased your tickets.

All the staff are informative and helpful, they listen to questions and answer them as best they can.

Our only problem and gripe was when we were in the cafe. They had two soup options for customers who have a dairy allergy. Unfortunately the Scotch Broth was undercooked making it unedible. The lentil were hard along with the split peas, turnips and carrots.

They don't have an alternative milk choice or any cakes or biscuits that are dairy free. In all this was very disappointing. The disabled toilets are very small and not easily signposted. Most customers thought the disabled toilets were the ordinary toilets, this again is very frustrating for anyone in a wheelchair.

A nice place to visit, but try pick a day where the weather is dry and take your own food.
