Russell is a great guide, providing a lot of interesting information along the way. This tour lasts all day! We left about 8:45 a.m. and got back to Edinburgh at 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. Great way to get out of the city and get into the Highlands. Frequent stops make the most use of the time, and don't keep you... This is a unique and really enjoyable experience. What's good is that you don't get funneled through places like a penguin. Rather you choose your own lunch, and how far you want to walk. You choose if you go up a monument. The guide, Donald - part owner too!- was great value, very knowledgeable and eager to help and make... More

I took the tour in early November not only did we have beautiful weather but the day was also amazing. Russell was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We saw lots of amazing things, typical to Scotland. It allows you to get a feel for Scotland outside the city walls of Edinburgh. Highly recommended, book in... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
