At first I didn't expect too much from this tour since it's free and just less than 12 hours tour. However, it was beyond my expectation, just absolutely great! The bus was comfortable, quite spacious for your legs, and the tour guide was very friendly. He told some stories about Scotland and also the places we visited in a strong... More

The bus was right on time, and our guide, Ryan, very nice ! He knew a lot about all the places that we saw, and was really enthusiast about the hairy cows ! (They are soooo nice by the way, I absolutelly understand). I recommend this tour if you want a day out of Edinburgh without any logistic problem, and... More

Went on the Hairy Coo tour today and it pretty much met or surpassed every expectation. Just under 9 hours of travelling, history and entertainment at a price you decide. The destinations chosen for the tour are an interesting selection and you get the ideal time to spend in each one. Paddy was an insightful and funny tour guide. Recommended.

Patty was our guide, and he was funny and very patient. He did his best to make sure everyone was happy. We had plenty of time outdoors for exploring and photos. Oh, the photos... Having to choose a "best part" is difficult, but I'd probably have to say Doune castle since I'm an Outlander fan. Communication via email with Russell... More

If you fancy hearing the essential stories about a history of Scotland, seeing the main castles, feeding and taking a selfie with a hairy cow plus admiring a few lochs - it's a good choice. Our guide told us many interesting stories all trip long. It was also enough time to explore places and to eat lunch/drink a coffee during... More

Me and my boyfriend really enjoyed the hairy coo tour! Our tour guide (Donald) was like a walking Wikipedia, he knows everything about the area and its history. The bus is comfortable and warm. Furthermore, a lot of stops are made on the way so you can take a closer look at the historic buildings. We would definitely recommend this... More

This tour is perfect for a little taste of the Scottish Highlands! We visited Forth Bridge, the Wallace Monument, Doune Castle, Loch Katrine, and of course the Hairy Coos. Donald, our guide, was fantastic and very knowledgeable with many historical tidbits as well as jokes and funny stories. There were frequent stops, so it didn't feel like you were only... More

This tour was a great experience! I really like the concept of the Hairy Coo and the way that Donald and co leaves it up to the guests to put a value on the tour. You can really tell that Donald knows this area well and he's a passionate storyteller and jokes a lot too. The stories and historical facts... More

Ryan the guide and Irene the bus took us on a well paced well done tour. Ryan had a tremendous grasp of Scottish history and landmarks and delivered it with great charisma and charm. We saw so much of Scotland and could understand it better thanks to the guide. Well worth coming on this trip and I recommend tipping as... More

Left on time; clean, comfortable bus; driver Donald very informative about all things Scotland; good drive also; and of course, the hairy coos. A wonderful, humorous, informative, thoroughly enjoyable trip. My highest praise. I'll be back in Edinburgh in November and will take another tour.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
