Would 100% recommend this to anyone going to Edinburgh. It's so nice to get out of the city and see some of the countryside and the highlands, learn a little bit about the history of Edinburgh, and take some great photos! Meeting the Hairycoos was amazing - such beautiful animals!

This tour was wonderful for all who really want to learn about Scottish culture. As we drove through all the different areas, our tour guide told us story after story! It was entertaining and a wonderful experience. This is not your typical tour, and I loved that!

Amazing experience, a lot of culture, sense of humour, friendliness and incredible landscapes. The places visited are not the most common for tourists or not so accesile on your own, which makes it more special.

Thank you The Hairy Coo Team, I had wonderful experiences in my first journey to Scotland. I took the free tour and the Loch Ness tour, both are beyond my expectations, especially for student's budget. Two lovely days (mostly sunny and clear view) with The Hairy Coo. The local entrepreneur working together with their local community, great partnership. I hope... More

A most enjoyable tour! We were collected on the Royal Mile at 8am. Feeling a little daunted at the thought of 12 hours on a bus! I needn't have worried. The tour was well paced with breaks to suit all. Plenty time for photos and leg stretching. Breakfast at Dunstens, a newish distillery, the single malt was yum even at... More

I had a great experience taking a trip with HairyCoo. Our tour guide was Paddy, who was funny, kind and polite. I would recommend opting their lunch that hairycoo offers whether you want to go for the boat ride or not. Lochness has very limited options available. Our first stop was the whisky experience. It was fun, very informative tour and... More

I found out about this wonderful opportunity from a friend who highly recommended this to me. I had a spare day in Edinburgh and since The Hairy Coo advertised themselves as excellent chance to see Scotland from a different angle, I thought 'why not?' Everything was just perfect, although we were partially lucky with the weather on that day. Despite... More

We found this tour while Googling for "what to do" while visiting Edinburgh before we went. At first we had some reservation, but decided to give it a go. I'm glad we did! Our tour guide, Ryan, picked us up and departed right on time at the agreed location (in front of Dean's House cafe). We went to and did... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
