If you want to treat yourself to something special, I'd highly recommend booking a tour with Helen. She can customize the day (or days) according to your interests. Even though I'd traveled to Scotland many times, Helen took me to places I'd never seen before and would not have seen if I had booked the day with a large tour group. She is knowledgeable, personable and her love for Scotland is apparent. The day I spent with Helen was one of the highlights of my trip!

In March of this year, I was fortunate to meet Helen of Afternoon Tea Tours. The title of her company caught my eye first, and upon reading reviews of tours taken by others, thought that I would give this a try. I was traveling with my 14 year old daughter, and a companion so we were of diverse ages. One thing we all have in common is a love of books. When Helen asked what sorts of things we would be interested in seeing, along with the usual beautiful scenery sights of Scotland, we wanted to visit some seats of learning...in our case, libraries! Helen searched and came up with a tour that included the Andrew Carnegie Homestead and Library in Dumferline, as well as the oldest free lending library in Scotland. What a day we had! We left Edinburgh shrouded in fog and drove into the sunshine of the hills. We had a magnificent day exploring and learning. The highlight of the day was finding the library at Innerpefree-no small task, but a gorgeous drive! This hidden gem has been loaning books since 1680! The small building holds a treasure within, and best of all, visitors can take down the books, touch the books, actually read the books. The library was begun by one of the wealthy landowners so that the children of local farmers and tenants would always be able to have a book in their hands. What a horizon-widening idea! The 'keeper of the books' , the actual job title of the librarian is a wealth of knowledge herself, and such a pleasure to meet and with whom to chat. Helen, also, is very easy to get to know. I think we four were chatting nonstop throughout the entire day. Helen loves her spot of Scotland and is so eager to show visitors the beauty and grandeur as well as little known areas not on any company tour route. I cannot recommend her tours highly enough. We all will love to go back again and enjoy another Afternoon Tea Tour!

We had an amazing time in Scotland! We went to The Hermitage, Dumferline to the Abbey and to the Carnegie Museum, Roslyn Chapel, Melrose, Dewars distillery and to St. Andrews. We stayed in Pitlochery at the Green Park Hotel.
There were four of us on this tour with Helen in August. We had started planning in January as we felt we had very unique needs. Four very different women embarking on a journey with which we really needed expert planning with attention to detail. Additionally, my Mom is first generation Canadian with both her parents emigrating from Scotland and this would be a long awaited first time journey to Scotland.
Helen was the expert and provided us with so much assistance ahead of time by patiently answering our many emails. My mom would require the use of a wheelchair for part of the trip as she cannot walk or stand for any length of time. Myself, my partner and my best friend have very different interests. Helen planned a trip that more than satisfied all of our needs. As my Mom said," nothing was too much trouble".
Helen is also an expert at sizing up people's interests and needs so my quest for history was met by just enough castles and abbeys, My best friend's interests in food and cultural Information was met by finding really unique cafe and bistros in quaint settings and my partners interest in nature was met by visiting the Hermitage, seeing the heather in the hills and walking up beautiful viewpoints like the Queens view. My Nom needed extra help, patience and wanted to "soak it all in".
Helens car, a brand we don't see in Canada but like a hybrid SUV was roomy , comfortable, super clean and accomodated our bags and the collapsible wheelchair. We loved the town we stayed, Pitlochery and the Green Park Hotel. Helen took extra care to visit the hotel ahead of time, and talk to the administration about an accessible room for my Mom. She ate at the dining room to check on the menus. It was a very special time with no worries.
Travelling with Helen made me appreciate Scotland like never before. She is passionate about demonstrating how Scots have influenced a great deal of our heritage in Canada, and the rest of the world.
There is nothing like being on a customized tour with someone who is a real professional but as friendly as someone you feel like you have known for years and who is a great driver. A real adventure was had by all!l
This trip was worth every penny! I would not hesitate to recommend Helen for all of her special touches, including talking the sheep into staying in one place so I could take lots of pictures!
Thank you, from Kelly, Peg, Janet and Carol.

So this was an interesting experience of two halves really. Imagine balancing your food, wine and cup of tea whilst travelling over cobbled streets in a very old bus with bad suspension. It certainly made for a bit of fun, although we were relieved that none of our food or drink ended up all over us like some of the other passengers. The cakes were absolutely fresh and scrumptious; the curly sandwiches and appetisers sadly quite the opposite, so they were fast abandoned in favour of the sweeter treats. There was no tour guide, which we were a bit disappointed about, and the service was not the best - almost comical. But it was a pleasurable way to spend 90 minutes, especially if you like juggling your drinks!

Took the afternoon tea bus tour with friends visiting from Trinidad...the food was okay but not as good as I expected... we thought there would be a running commentary so very disappointed there was very little dialogue... The staff on the bus were very nice and friendly so feel sorry I’m having to criticise this tour..
Any foreign tourists on this trip certainly would not have learnt very much about our beautiful city

I travel a lot and have experience lots of adventures. I can't say I would do this again. The first day we went up to Pitlochry. I had said I was interested in going up to the Highlands. Not quite sure this was a match. I felt in many ways it was just a shopping trip and time for a hike. A few times she said, "you don't like to walk". I do, but walking up paths and around a town is something I can do at home. I expected a bit more. I travel in the colder months for various reasons. Helen is probably best suited for Summer and Spring trips. She constantly reminded me that it woud be more beautiful in the Spring/Summer. I like to live in the now. Probably part my mistake since I left too much up to Helen to decide what we woud do. The second day she took me around Edinburgh. Later in the week I had gone to Glasgow and did the Hop on Hop off bus and felt that I got a lot more out for a few dollars verses the $140/day. On both days I felt there were too many down times. It was too expensive.
Helen is a wonderful person. I just don't think the Afternoon Tea Tours was a match for me.

It was an informative, relaxing, and enjoyable experience going around Scotland and witnessing the wonders of this city through the eyes of a local. Helen listened attentively to what we wished to do and she organized our day according to our pace and introduced us to a variety of new places and breathtaking sceneries. She was funny and socialized with our children well. It was really like meeting a long lost friend. Thanks Helen, you are a gem.

I bought afternoon tea vouchers for my Mother and Father in law last year, and they both had a great time, saying that Helen was just the best. On the back of this success, I bought a further voucher for my Mother and Father in Law , along with a voucher for my Father and his partner for Christmas this year - they had their tour last week. Again they said they had the best time and that Helen was just great, such good company and making them both feel very relaxed.

I would thoroughly recommend this as a gift option.

My sister and I were treated to a marvelous tour outside of Edinburgh by an attentive, informed and pampering tour guide! While we paid a bit extra for our personalized tour, you do get what you pay for - convenience, a safe and comfortable vehicle and driver and an interested and interesting tour guide in Helen Fraser. Seeing the adorable black and white lambs on the hillsides, sampling a delicious ice cream in Melrose, experiencing a tour of delightful Abbotsford (Sir Walter's Scott's home) as well as tasting a fantastic afternoon tea in an enchanting mansion/hotel are all truly unforgettable memories. A highlight of our trip to the friendly and interesting city of Edinburgh!
