When I first booked the tour, I was thinking, “Yay! Hiking! Walking through Lord of the Rings land! How pretty!” I had yet to visit Scotland, or even the UK for that matter. Little did I know I was about to embark on a true adventure of a lifetime. In the weeks leading up to the trip, while I was exploring the UK, Megan reached out multiple times to coordinate, confirm, check, and double-check everything. She made the process as simple and easygoing as possible, to the point where I didn’t even have to think about the upcoming tour until the morning of. I can focus on my energy and attention on enjoying the rest of the UK!

Morning comes and it’s the day of the tour. It’s 7AM on a Sunday. The city is asleep. Even the sun sleeps in on a winter day in Scotland. I’m tired. I’m groggy. I’m possibly a bit hungover from a typical Saturday night. Megan, however, is VIBRANT. She’s got the car warmed, tunes pumping, snacks ready, and a smile beaming. Her energy is contagious and within minutes I’m feeling good, I’m feeling ready, I’m feeling like I can totally bag a munro, most def.

We make the drive, about 2 hours from Edinburgh to the car park of our Glencoe munro. Park car. Get out. Gear up. Ready packs. And we begin our hike. Conditions are perfect — absolutely could not be better. The sun is out and shining on a beautifully blue day, not too cold and not too windy. Megan tells me a bit about the hike and why she chose it (it’s one of her favorites and one of the more beautiful). We’re walking through a forest. It had snowed quite a bit the night before and I am grateful for waterproof hiking boots. Actually, Megan brought me the hiking boots because I hadn’t thought to bring my own. And with these bad boys, I could stumble into rocks or jump in water and the boots kept my feet warm and dry.

After about 2 miles, we begin the steep incline up the mountain and I quickly become aware that this is not a walk through Lord of the Rings land: ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY BAG A MUNRO! We’re walking up, temperature has dropped, and my legs are feeling the burn. Right when I’m about ready to drop, Megan finds a gorgeous spot for a lunch break. There was no visible path to it, but we’re now sitting next to a waterfall that falls off the side of the munro and opens up into the snowy glen below. The view is beautiful. I feel rested.

We press on. Within the hour, the haggis hits the fan. Conditions change. The sun? Gone. The blue skies? Gone. The wind and the snow intensify until we’re in almost whiteout conditions. Ice axes are out and I’m needing it to advance up the mountain. I decide that a look down below would be a good idea... wrong. It’s a steep drop, a SHEER drop, to certain death. I’m pretty sure I’m about to die on this mountain. I look up and find Megan — she’s smiling as big as can be! She was built for this. This is her passion. This is her life. This is why she is here! My worries fade because I know she’ll get me through it. “Not today, Death. Not today.” As the trek becomes even more intense, I realize how helpful Megan has actually been. She’s cutting a path ahead for me. She’s clearly marked where to step, where to dig in my axe, where to lean and where not to — it’s all there. It leaves me the energy I need to calm my mind, focus my breathing, and just enjoy the climb.

Another hour in and the winds are billowing, clashing with the snow and performing epic battles on every inch of exposed skin. It hurts. I’m in pain. My legs are exhausted. Everything inside me screams to just turn around. But I carry on. I’m almost there; I can feel it. The ground begins to level out and I swear I can see the top, even despite the now total whiteout conditions making it impossible to see anywhere beyond 5 feet in front of me. Megan leads me the last mile and to the carin marking the top. I’ve made it! We’ve done it! I touch the cairn, snap a photo, and BOOM: Bagged me my first munro!

The way down was all the more treacherous — no visibility, high winds, sheer decline. And yet, Megan’s turned this would-be-near-death-experience into a playground! We’re sliding down the mountain on our bottoms! I’m laughing out loud and smiling big from the absolute fun of it all! I feel totally rejuvenated and alive. We’ve done it.

We get to the bottom and are finishing out the homestretch when I realize: I didn’t get any photos!! I did all that and don’t have a single photo to show! Mom’s gonna be pissed...

And just then, Megan pulls out her phone and shows me all the photos she’s taken throughout: me climbing, me using an ice axe, me candidly gazing out towards Scotland! The whole adventure is there, and she’s captured it perfectly. You could say that Megan hella came in clutch. We make it to the car and now I’ve got a permanent smile.

To finish off the day, this GENIUS of a tour guide takes us to a restaurant that is unbelievable: burgers, nachos, roasts, soups, haggis, puddings, whiskies, you name it! And the unbelievable part? Everything is priced 2-for-1, or in MegaSizes, or with free sides! For the weary, broken, hungry hiker, it’s an essential celebratory dinner. Potentially my favorite moment in the UK. Is it actually? Maybe... guess you’ll just have to find out for yourself! Book a tour! Push yourself! Allow yourself to climb to all new heights! In the words of the main man Shia: just do it.

I booked a guided hiking tour with Megan as part of a few days I had booked in Scotland just before Christmas. From the moment I’d booked to the day it’s self (and even afterwards as I’d left my boots in the car) the communication has been 100%. I knew where I had to be and when, what to expect on the day, and what equipment/kit I needed - which was all arranged prior to the trip.

Megan’s knowledge of the area was second to none, and she went beyond and above what was expected to make sure we made the most out of the day.

She is brilliant at the job and a credit to herself in every way from her personality to her professionalism and drive to succeed. Knowing you are in safe hands makes the whole experience a lot more satisfying - especially if you aren’t too confident about being in the hills alone.

It was certainly the highlight of my trip and I wouldn’t hesitate to book with her again.

Would highly recommend.

Megan was super professional and knowledgable in helping plan and execute a hike in Glencoe during my trip to Scotland. We ran into a higher than expected bog factor, a few highland cows, and some misleading paths, but she made me feel comfortable the whole time during my first ever hike in Scotland. The highlands are stunningly beautiful and the view from the top was breathtaking. She is very friendly and tailored the hike to my ability level. The hike was the highlight of my trip and I look forward to coming back to Scotland, and working with her again!

The mountain guided tour offered by The Munro Bagging Co. is the easiest way to enjoy a journey hiking in the Scottish mountains.

Since I don't have a car I find specially interesting that the transport is included. Moreover, the trip is perfectly organised and you'll be nicely attended to ensure that you enjoy the best possible experience. Megan is a fantastic guide and a really nice person, so time flies by chatting on the road. We were hiking in Buachaille Etive Mor, al amazing place.

I recommend it 100% and I will repeat as soon as possible.

Cheers!

Great day out bagging one of the most popular Munros with Megan. We had some beautiful views on the way up.

Megan was so friendly and professional. In typical Scottish style, it wasn't the clearest of days at the top. We even got some snow. But I felt safe and reassured the entire time.

I would definitely recommend this day trip to anyone looking to get out and see Scotland from a different perspective.

Tackled the Aonach Eagach ridge in Glencoe with the assistance of the excellent Megan. It was an incredible day out and genuinely couldn’t have gone better. She was knowledgeable and very friendly. This was a scary climb with scrambling involved but she was reassuring throughout. Transport and food was also provided and was very good, highly recommended!

Summary
- Megan is super friendly, professional, and flexible with respect to logistics and picking out a hike based on who's in the group
- We climbed several munros and had a blast
- Food was delicious, both the sandwiches we picked up and the restaurant we stopped at on the way back
- I unfortunately forgot my passport at the sandwich shop on the way to the trail, and Megan was handled it perfectly and helped me pick it up on the way back.
- There's a reason this company has only 5 star reviews!

Megan provided transportation for my friend and me to and from Edinburgh - she rents a car, very much appreciated and makes the whole process go much smoother, especially given her flexibility in pick-up within Edinburgh. After we picked up sandwiches, I unfortunately left my passport at the shop - Megan handled it perfectly. She called the shop and made sure it was secure, and she was super friendly about picking it up on the way back.

We got lucky and the weather was perfect - clear skies and 100% visibility. Megan is excellent at picking hikes based on who's in the group - we asked for a challenging hike, and we got it! We climbed several munros in one day and had a blast.

On the way back we were running a little late with respect to picking up my passport - she ran ahead to get the car and picked us up along the tail-end of the trail to make sure we got to the shop on time - our legs were very appreciative for the early pick up.

We stopped at a restaurant on the way back and the food was delicious - I ordered a venison burger and my friend got fish & chips, perfect food to recharge after a long hike.

Couldn't recommend this more highly.

I absolutely loved my day with Megan on Ben Lomond and hope to bag more Munros with her on future trips! From the morning pickup at my Edinburgh hotel to the deli lunches we picked up, snacks and water provided—not to mention great Scottish tunes in the car and the sights she pointed out along the way—the Munro Bagging Co. was the perfect solution for this solo traveler. She was a both a highly competent and very congenial guide up the trail to the top, kept our little group going through rain, hail and snow. Being able to relax in her car on the way back to Edinburgh capped a perfect day for me.
