Neighborhood: New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

I was drawn to this shop by the beautiful Halloween 🎃 items in the window.

Thinking 🤔 it was a shop that sold wool to knit with and knitting patterns, I went in to enquire how much the item, that had caught my eye, was. I certainly didn’t expect it to be so cheap. I was very pleased indeed with my purchase!!!

Upon getting home, my Daughter was shocked 😮 at how cheap the item was, and that a certain website was selling similar items for a lot more.

We found out the shop was a charity, and that people who have fallen on hard times, that can bake, make or mend, get chosen to sell their wares in this shop.

They set their own prices and the charity take a 10% cut. If I’d only known about this I’d have bought more and given more money for what I bought!!!

Here’s a picture of the cute little fella that caught my eye 😁😊🎃

Drawn in by the knitted toys in the front window. Wide selection of beautifully crafted handmade gifts (wool sweaters, stuffed animals, baby socks, jams) that all benefit The Royal Edinburgh Repository & Self Aid Society for working women. Glad to spend our money on gifts that will help others.
