Sam was such a lovely guide, really making us feel welcome and at home. On the tour, where he showed us around a good chunk of the city, he not only told us lots of interesting Harry Potter and JK Rowling related stories, he also gave us some insight into some of Edinburg’s histories and tales as well. He was super knowledgable on everything Harry Potter and was able to answer all our questions, and even had in depth explanations of how some of the characters, events and places in Harry Potter were inspired by real life people and stories. Sam really went the extra mile to make it a fun and immersive experience, with some props and activities to really make it feel like a Harry Potter tour!

Yes the people in Rowling's life are undoubtedly more important than our locations. Geography is just backdrop, characters move around the stage. I'm glad it was fun, I imagine that's a fear for a 4 hour tour. If you combine my 8 hour tour with my 4 hour Harry Potter cycle tour, then that's 12 hours. 24 hours would be a true marathon, I'd probably have to talk about Rowling's nail clippings or something... One can dream. I wish you McGonagall's fist of iron and Hagrid's glowing heart. x Sam

We had a walking tour with Sam, this was amazing with lots of Harry Potter and JK Rowling trivia, as well as Scottish history too! He was very personable and made the tour lots of fun, showing us his favorite spots and of course getting in some photos too. Also made it special with little gifts along the way… thanks Sam!

Yes, professors have expressed enthusiasm for the Edinburgh context, so there's a small amount of history; I guess they dislike a tour totally disembodied from its geography. My tour does spend a far longer time amongst the pink, spongy mass that is JK Rowling's brain, following its labrythinian ways and grasping port keys. Thanks for the kind review Kylan, it's not universal, I appreciate it. May you grow as wise as Dumbledore and as dishy as Gilderoy Lockhart (is that even possible?) x Sam

Sam gave us a lovely afternoon out in the city. I recommend for families with kids 7+. Good to have some Potter knowledge before to appreciate it most. Put on your walking shoes and pack a snack - there's a lot to cover, even with a fast talker like Sam. He knows all sorts of factoids and shortcuts through town. Plan a place to rest your feet and refresh yourself at the end.

Hi Trevor, thanks for the cheery review. It's now the quiet season & all my Goblins have gone on strike demanding a pay rise, I suppose I should be thankful for their timing. Anyway, it means I've had to double the price - they're bleeding me. I'm glad you got in before they went militant. If you're considering a longer Harry Potter tour this is it! But due to niche interest it's not viable on the cheap. If you're a keen fan and visiting Edinburgh primarily for Potter this ½ day tour will make it a centrepiece of a day; I'd love to have you along. I also offer various private tours, including my 7 hour 'Complete Potterhead', which rummages every drawer of Dumbledore's desk. Due to the novelty of running them my private prices are competitive with tours ⅓ their length. Yes, I speak so so sooooo fast, but at least it isn't in Latin! Gratias tibi tam Trevor x Sam

Sam was fantastically knowledgeable and passionate about the works of JK Rowling - it was very interesting to understand the parallels between her life and writings, which give further subsequent context to the stories. The tour had a great blend of interactivity and theatrics, and we felt fully-indoctrinated into the fictional world by then end. Highly recommended, but do wear sensible footwear as it's over a fair distance through the afternoon!

Yes, flat-soled, waterproof footwear is best. I've had people walk off in Autumn drizzle because their canvas shoes became waterlogged. Some authors dislike literary theorists drawing connections between their journey and features of their works, but Rowling has largely volunteered it herself! Although the connections she draws between the Potterverse and Edinburgh tend to be more in a spiritual nature. Cheers Matthew for the cheery, thoughtful review & *photo*, you do me proud! May your broomstick cut headwinds like a Merman's trident through currents. x Sam

We thoroughly enjoyed Sam's tour this week. His attention to detail was great and he managed to keep 1 x 13 year old and 1 x 17 year old engaged which is no mean feat!

Cheers Jacqui, Due to the niche appeal of such a long, detailed tour it'll likely be largely offered at niche prices next year; you got in while it was affordable, I'm pleased it served. Thanks for the cheery review. May your hair crackle with 1000 brilliant thoughts, and your adventures fizz like Lockharts. x Sam
