- HighlandLass24Baltimore, Maryland177 contributionsLovely area of EdinburghStockbridge is a lovely area of Edinburgh that has Circus Lane within it. It is definitely worth a stop. I went first thing in the morning and found a deserted Circus Lane which was lovely for pictures. Everyone on Circus Lane takes such wonderful care of their gardens. There are colorful pots of flowers everywhere and one home had a wall of jasmine climbing up it that smelled heavenly. I enjoyed taking a stroll through Stockbridge on the way back to the city center. It was a quieter place and definitely worth a detour to see it.Visited July 2023Written August 15, 2023

A very nice place to stay or visit. I stayed at the Nira Caledonia Hotel. It's not in the center of Edinburgh, so if you want that, this is not the place for you. It was nice to stay in this area and get away from all the madness going on with the Fringe.

We discovered the Stockbridge neighborhood a few years ago while wandering around Edinburgh; the place spoke to us. We returned and rented a flat for a couple months pre covid. Now, we have returned again and rented a flat for the summer. Everything that interests us is nearby. Botanic Garden, Glengogle Swin Center, Water of Leith path, grocery, cheese monger, fish monger, butcher, charity shops, city center. Easy for us to feel like this is a second home.

Take a walk from Edinburgh to Stockbridge. Pretty place with river running through. Quaint and picturesque with lots of photo points. A real contrast to the big city next door.

Somehow, in spite of numerous trips to Edinburgh, this was the first time we have visited Stockbridge and it really is rather lovely. Although it isn’t far from the city centre (an easy stroll) Stockbridge has a distinct community feeling all of its own, and one can imagine it being a lovely place to live.
The architecture, a mix of fine Georgian and Victorian, is both attractive and interesting and there is a splendid collection of independent shops, cafes, pubs etc. It is certainly worth a visit.

Stockbridge is a lively, town neighborhood on the Water of Leith, located north of the city centre, bounded by the New Town and by Comely Bank. There are elegant terraced houses in Georgian and Victorian styles. You can find here many charming cafes and pubs , specialty and second-hand stores. Jewelry, crafts and food are sold at the weekly Stockbridge Market. Here is also the Royal Botanic Garden, which is home to sumptuous greenhouses. Stockbridge has a fairly artistic feel and is definitely a must-see in Edinburgh.

We spent a short time walking through Stockbridge, without knowing what it was. However not knowing its identity did not prevent us from admiring the lovely architecture of the area and the quite picturesque houses. There are some interesting shops around and many seem to be specialty shops with prices to match. It's worth a visit if you happen to be near this district.

This neighborhood along with Haymarket is fun to wander about. Here are rows and rows of row houses with stacks on the roofs and built around the late 1800s to early 1900s. Quaint laneways and shops like days of old dot this area. It is away from the city centre, but you can get there by walking along the Water of Leith. The Royal botanic gardens are located here but it is the architectural delights that will captivate you. The terraced homes are adorsble.
