The area
Neighborhood: New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

Queen Victoria's Husband
Oct 2020
There a number of tributes to Prince Albert around the UK. There is one in Edinburgh in Charlotte Square which is in the "New Town" area. It's just a couple of minutes from Princes Street.

Located at the centre of Charlotte Square the statue is quite grand however the square is not open all the time so you cannot get too close.

Impressive

This looks to be a very impressive statue set in a large square called Charlotte. Regrettably you are unable to go up close for a closer look.

Impressive Statue by the renowned sculptor Sir John Steel
Dec 2019
Located in gardens that are open from 9.00 am till 5.30 pm everyday except Saturday when it is closed .This magnificent statue sculpted in bronze by the famous sculptor Sir John Steel in 1876 . the surrounding figures by D W Stevenson, Clark Stanton and William Brodie. The garden itself was laid out by William Weir in 1808. It is not one of the more well known attractions being slightly off the tourist trail but is well worth a look if you are in the area . It is classified category A by Historic Environment

Statue of Prince Alberts Statue
Aug 2019
If your in George Street in the centre of Edinburgh its worthwhile walking to the west end where you will come to Charlotte Square.
You will come across the statue of Albert its in a lovely part of Edinburgh's New Town.
Its a good area for walk around with the family or friends visiting Edinburgh.

An equestrian statue
Oct 2018
I am not sure why this statue is confined in a private park in the middle of the city, but that must be a weird peculiarity of the British. We have seen these "private" parks elsewhere in the UK, in London for example. It seems wherever there are many wealthy individuals these sort of things are allowed! The statue of tAlbert is nice enough, at least from a distance, but it is not exceptional and I would not implore anyone to go out of their way to go and see it.

Good Statue of Prince Albert in Charlotte Square - Worth Visit if Nearby
Aug 2019
This is an imposing statue of Prince Albert the husband of Queen Victoria dressed in Field Marshall's uniform.
It is in a gated park in Charlotte Square which unfortunately only has key access to the residents around the square who pay an annual fee.

Private park
Jun 2019 • Family
I was confused about the whole private park thing and a local informed me. The Albert memorial is an impressive equestrian statue of Prince Albert that lies in Victoria park. It has a locked iron fence around the perimeter. Personal homes and businesses line all sides of the park and they are able to pay a yearly fee to get a key and have access to the park. The fees pay to maintain the park. Hence, no public access. You can walk around it and enjoy the statue but that’s it. If you are walking by enjoy, but do not go out of your way to walk by.

Nice Statute in Private Gardens
Mar 2019 • Solo
This large statue of Prince Albert on horseback dressed in a Field Marshall's uniform can be found in Charlotte Square. Sadly the statue is inside the gardens, which is private.
