The area
Address
Neighborhood: New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

The place holds so much history so many artifacts and paintings of the Era gone by.. We bought the tics at the gate ..thankfully there was not much of a rush..the crown jewels were so nice to see..The Most famous Mary queen of Scots lived here..It houses the crown, the sceptre and the sword of state..the architecture is exquisite

Visited Edinburgh several times this year, first ever time visiting the palace. Our part experience ticket was £15:50 general tour of the palace and grounds. Not really my cup of tea but very glad I was persuaded to attend. Very interesting, lovey architecture great all round experience. Took around 2 1/2 hours to look around. Audio experience from room to room. Worth every penny from me and worth the time. Nice little coffee shop at the start.

In order to avoid queuing for tickets, buy an online ticket which is cheaper as well. The palace is an interesting place to visit, some exhibitions require a bit of queuing, eg. the crown jewels. It takes about 2 hours to see everything.

My friends and I went to The Royal Palace in Edinburgh last May 18, 2019. We walked from our hotel throughout the Royal Mile to the Castle. Because we had purchased the tickets in advanced and it was early in the morning there wasn't a line.
It was an excellent experience even when it was a rainy day. We started with Crown's Jewels then to St Margaret's Chapel, The Royal Apartment, National War Memorial, Prisoners War Museum and Half Moon Battery.
It was an excellent experience.

We went to the crown jewels, had to stand in line for 30 minutes only to find 6 different pieces that combined are the crown jewels. None of the items were very impressive and well for me it was not worth the wait (although I do realise that part of the collection is probably housed in the tower of London). They did try to keep the long waiting a bit more pleasant by showing how the jewels were made, hidden and later recovered.
The royal apartments really offer nothing special and you can also only see a few rooms.
For me disappointing, I simply had hoped for more. Anyway part of the castle and included in the tickets, so why not see it when you are there anyway?!.

This part of the castle is pretty interesting. It is not as lavish as expected but it is still interesting to see this part of the past.

Visited the palace when on mini break. We found that it was really well maintained. The audio guide was informative, easy to use and contained just enough information. The guides were friendly and helpful and the short talk in the throne room well delivered. Displays were very impressive. I think more obvious help should be supplied for disabled. There is a lift to the first floor but none to the second. I went to the second floor on my own but could not get back to my husband on the first floor without a lot of difficulty. Please make this more obvious or have more guides available. In spite of this we did have an enjoyable visit
