We had a wonderful guide-Chris P . He was really entertaining and shared a lot of stories with us. Listening to his stories and watching the view of Highlands, it was a wonderful day.

My partner and I attended a tour to Loch Ness early January, we both enjoyed the tour as the Highlands and Loch Ness are beautiful! Unfortunately we didn't spend as long in Loch Ness as the tour advertises as we were stuck in traffic at the start of the day which put us back around 50 minutes, understandably this is... More

My friends and I each booked a 3-day Isle of Skye tour through Viator that was to take place through Highland Explorer Tours in July 2017. We each needed our own rooms and we booked that option a few months ago. We then received emails from Viator stating that the tour requires double occupancy. I could not get anywhere with... More

Hi travelalot40, As you know we have contacted you directly regarding this matter and once again apologies profusely for the inconvenience caused. I understand my colleague has explained by telephone the issues we had, for a few days, with the back end link between our booking engine and that of a 3rd party agent. Both IT teams have worked to... More

Our guide Duncan was absolutely fantastic, he was so knowledgeable and told Scottish history with ease and in an entertaining way, I really learnt a lot from him and enjoyed him as a guide. There was too much time spent on the coach and not enough exploring which was the downside, I felt they could plan the itenary a bit... More

Hi Natalie, Thanks for taking the time to post this review. I'm glad you enjoyed Duncan's guiding and learnt a lot during the tour. Thanks also for your feedback regarding the itinerary. Loch Ness is rather far from Edinburgh (171 miles / 273 km) so it does take a few hours on the bus to get there and back to... More

Booking was easy, pick up spot on time. Itinerary was great, sights fabulous, BUT, Doogie, our guide DID NOT STOP TALKING ON THE MICROPHONE - ALL DAY! He even shooshed us up shhh! Shhh! and at one point threatened to stop the bus if we didn't listen! And EVERY sentence had "guys" in it! By the end of the day... More

Hello Jim H, We think you may have mistaken us with another company as our only guide of a similar name has not taken a Stirling Castle and Loch Lomond tour for some months, and regardless, does not sound like the person in question that you have described. We have explained this to TripAdvisor. If you are sure you travelled... More

We went on a day trip with Scot to the highlands. Right from the get go (at 8am) he was very enthousiastic and entertaining. Lots of cool history and witty facts about Edinburgh and Scotland. The area around Glencoe was especially scenic due to a very nice winter sun. Loch Ness wasnt too impressive (particularly coming from Glencoe), but we... More

Informative trip. took my 11 and 12 yr old. Missed the coach first time, but thankfully was allowed on the next day. Enjoyed the Scottish history talks from the driver which were balanced and fair. Beautiful scenery. Went on the Loch Ness boat tri too which my kids loved. Wouldn't have taken kids younger than 11 and 12 as it... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
