Don't be fooled by the frosted windows, metal grates, and worn down old doors, behind the unassuming facade is one of Edinburgh’s best cocktail bars. This intimate speakeasy draws influence from bars in Berlin and New York, cocktails are stirred...more

Positives: - Quirky hidden bar - Intimate and cosy space- dimly lit, great period décor - Joan Collins cocktail was refreshing and tasty (£8.50) - Barman very knowledgable Negatives: - Felt like outsiders when entering - Staff came across as disdainful when asking about our...More

An unusual and quirky bar with interesting decor. Be careful or you will miss it, it's not obvious from the outside that it's a bar, though this definitely adds to the charm. An interesting choice of drinks that goes beyond mere modern tweaks on classics....More

Had a pretentious experience which ruined the vibe of the evening completely. This place really isn't special and the drinks did not impress us. There's better bars around, especially in this price range.

Called in to sample a cocktail, glad I did. The exterior is rather forbidding with a very industrial look and metal mesh on the windows. I pushed open the external double door to be plunged into near darkness whilst I fumbled for the inner double-doors....More

Got this place recommended by the waitress at a restaurant. It’s team was so funny and the drinks were excellent and original

The detective theme seemed somewhat limited/superfluous to this intimate cocktail bar just off Rose street. Space is limited with only a handful of tables and seats at the bar so a good idea to make a reservation. We nipped in early Saturday evening and were...More

Absolutely outstanding experience last night. My partner and I took some visitors to Edinburgh to B&MPD. I've been before so knew we wouldn't be disappointed, and we weren't. Only had the one round but the attention to detail of staff and the deliciousness of the...More

We just came across this little gem after looking at google maps as to what was nearby. It doesn’t look like a bar from the outside but it definitely has the wow factor on the inside. It has a good selection of cocktails. Staff are...More

Just located in a lane off the busy Rose Street - it does not advertise itself as a bar and instead from the outside looks like a detective agency. Serves cocktails and bottled beers. Recommended to pop in to have a look for yourself.

It’s on one of the side alleys on Rose Street, blink and you’ll miss the door! When you step inside it’s like being transported back to 1940’s America; the decor is fantastic. The Barman is very knowledgeable, I’m not a cocktail fan as a general...More

helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned
