Revisited Dean Castle Country Park after a disappointing visit in April only to find this time its more or less closed for a multi million pound facelift. We did however visit the castle which seemed to be the only thing open. Last time we were here, we were rudely shouted at by a member of staff (See previous review),this time... More

I'm sorry to hear that your visit to Dean Castle Country Park did not meet your expectations. You are quite right, many of our facilities are closed for much needed upgrades. The castle has also just been granted several million pounds for restoration and new displays, but the Palace and exhibition will remain open to the public for the foreseeable... More

Thank you very much for reviewing Dean Castle Country Park. We agree, there's certainly lots going on here. Over this winter there will be refurbishments to upgrade our visitor centre, cafe and rural life centre so by next year there should be even more to see and do. Please do come and visit us again. A great place for a walk, with or without dog, and a breath of fresh air. Although close to the centre of Kilmarnock, its peaceful and offers a great variety of pathways through the woods and alongside the river. There is a small urban farm area with a variety of animals plus a tea room in the Castle area. There... More

The park is beautiful. We loved the deer. The castle has a special history to us since it has the Boyd history. We have been the last three and have not been able to go in the keep because of the unsafe conditions. There is a plan to restore the buildings, but funding is not in place yet.

I hope that you will be pleased to hear that the Castle has now secured £5.2million funding for the restoration of the buildings. A lovely, well maintained park suitable for walkers, children, buggies and pooches. There are a good few different paths and trails to follow as well as open grassland for play and picnics. Swings and a small animal farm are a draw for the kids and the old house often hosts craft fairs. Plenty of car parking away from the main... More

We visited here today ,seeing the deer in the grounds was brilliant ,the castle was interesting but only being able to visit the kitchen and one other room spoilt the experience, the keep wasn't open ,I appreciate its out of season and they are renovating a lot of rooms and buildings, but it did spoil the experience in my opinion.

We're so sorry to hear that your visit didn't meet your expectations. You are quite correct, the castle is not fully open while restorations of the Keep are carried out. The conservation work will cost around £5.2million and due to the sensitive nature of the work and the age of the castle the restoration is likely to take several years.... More

My 2 young children & I decided to have a visit to Dean Castle as the kids wanted to see the animals. I'm sorry to have to say it but we were all very disappointed to see that most of the animals had gone. As usual the barn where the horses were kept was closed despite the fact it was... More

This place has gone downhill since the last time I was here last year. Hardly any animals about and the ones that were looked sad. This used to a great park to take kids to, the council need to spend a bit of money getting this plac back to the standard it used to be!

Up in the area on holiday with the dog so looking for lots of walking destinations. Found this on trip advisor so gave it a go.
