Great beer and lovely helpful staff. Visited on a tour of Scotland from Wolverhampton to compete the caskque ale trail and the manager couldn't of been more helpful

One of The Best Pubs Ever
Jun 2021
Walking past and spoke to the landlord who could not have been more friendly and helpful, showed me round before opening time, was so impressed we went back for an afternoon drink or two. Great selection across all drinks and nothing was too much trouble to make out visit memorable. I had a couple of pints and my wife fantastic red wine. It is simply a great pub that should and I am sure is cherished by all in Dundee, as a visitor to Dundee an absolute joy to find.

PS Dundee and all its folk were so friendly and helpful it was a pleasure to visit and I am kicking myself I have left until retired to visit. Will certainly visit this great city and the West End area again soon.

Great to be in Speedweels again.
The staff are fantastic & controlling the bar very well.
As ever the 80 shilling at Speedwell’s is kept to perfection.

Great authentic Local pub! We were in there last week and the wee lassie was run ragged with covid guidance, but she coped exceptionally well! Erdinger on tap, the only pub in Dundee, to my knowledge, which has this!! Superb!!

A traditional bar with fantastic beer
Feb 2020
This is an immaculately preserved Edwardian Bar from the windows to the toilet fittings. It is a very welcoming place which is a friendly and welcoming bar to people of all ages, rather than a museum piece.
There is a snug and larger rooms set up for sports, but primarily for groups to enjoy each others company. It is busy in a bustling, fun way as opposed to being frantic.
Staff are excellent and the beer is very well kept to bring out the flavours, noy for guzzling. The guest taps change pretty regularly and it is worth keeping an eye on what's new.
This is definitely one of the best bars in Dundee, if not the best.

Best bar in Dundee
Jan 2020 • Solo
Won't find a better place to have a pint in all of Dundee, staff are exceptional and really help the pub to have a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. There is something for everyone with a large selection of beers, whiskey and gin. Will be back

They don’t come any better than this.

The Speedwell is a beautiful, traditional pub with pleasing, dark wood fittings that include a superb gantry that displays their famed selection of fine whisky.

The curved bar is split in the middle by a charming wood and glass screen that effectively creates a snug, and there are also two separate, ultra-cosy snugs off the bar.

Service here was smart, friendly and efficient, and I thought that the three young people behind the bar exuded pride in the job and sheer professionalism. They are a credit to the business.

This bar is probably a mile from the city centre, but as it is undoubtedly one of the finest bars in the city, it is well worth seeking out.
Highly recommended.

A fine example of an Edwardian pub built in 1903 for the Lord Provost.
Rightly listed in the CAMRA inventory of heritage interiors internally it retains most of the original features. Dark mahogany throughout, the L shaped bar is in two sections each with its own entrance and connected internally by a half height wooden glazed dividing door. And then there are two lounge rooms off the back bar section separated by a glazed wall so that when standing you can see between the rooms.
The ornate bar servery has an impressive collection of over 100 whiskeys on the back and the usual array of Scottish keg taps on the front as well as three real ale pumps which were dispensing Caledonian Deuchars IPA, Ringwood Boondoggle and Pale and Significant from the nearby 71 Brewing microbrewery for my visit.
The Pale and Significant was on top form as it should have been for something that had just rolled down the road to the pub and I took it into the back lounge room to admire the quirky artwork that adorns the various walls of the pub, and it wasn’t long before I was engaged in conversation by some of the locals, as it is that kind of friendly place.
There is not many like the Speedwell remaining and it should be treasured for the old time pub experience it is.
