A great wee cafe with a cinema attached. Very popular at lunch times, so come early. The shop displays works by a number of local craftspeople and has a good stock of very interesting books.

    Thanks for Nothing, Restaurant Staff!
DCA earned three stars today solely because of the delightfully friendly and sweet gentleman manning the till in the gift shop. Right now, this employee is your greatest asset, DCA. The shop itself is stocked with thoughtful gifts of high quality. I bought a couple of things then headed downstairs to the restaurant. I was planning to have lunch there and was well within time to do so. Restaurant staff were standing around chatting to each other. One hard working man was actually serving meals to customers. He seemed to be the only person working. I sat there, quite ignored, for 15 minutes. No offer to take my drinks order and certainly no chance to dine. I’m disabled. Hope that this had nothing to do with the appaling lack of service and discourtesy. I am very unlikely to be back at the DCA for a meal in the future. This is a pity, as there seemed to be some lovely vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. Pity that there was nobody willing to walk five metres or so to serve me. I had been planning to go to the cinema there after lunch but of course, this did not happen either. Nobody ignores me.

    Fun for a wet afternoon
Popped here as the nearby science museum was fully booked. Not sure what art was on display, but it was set up for the Easter break and we made our own art. Staff were friendly and helpful and it helped kill an hour in the awful weather.

Dropped in to a nice modern building. Good shop friendly staff, good cafeteria. But now we go downhill, as an incredible self important non exhibit with book covers on the walls regarding an early female Sci fi writer banging on about her left hand. Also dark small rooms playing endless videos with crazy background noise.
Someone has lost the plot here methinks, I like contemporary art, it has to have substance. but this offering would fill a bus shelter or you could put old chip wrappers on the wall a statement of life.

I had heard good things about the DCA so I was looking forward to going there for a meal with my friend.
When I arrived the girl by the door flat out ignored me, as in she made a point of avoiding eye contact so I couldn’t ask her where my table was.
Luckily my friend spotted me and showed me where our table was.
We ordered soft drinks and were presented with thimble size glasses for the price of a large, luckily there was water on the table.
My friend also ordered a pint of beer which apparently tasted awful.
I found the menu pretty uninspiring and struggled to find anything I actually wanted to eat. The menu isn’t clearly marked with allergy advice so you do have to ask.
I had ciabatta with hummus for a starter, it was alright but disappointing for the price. The bread was decent enough but the hummus lacked flavour and the salad dressing was questionable.
For the main I had chicken with Parma ham. When it arrived it was slathered in cheese which I didn’t remember being stated on the menu but maybe I didn’t pay enough attention. As I can’t eat cheese and our waiter had vanished I just took the ham off and luckily all the cheese came with it.
The remaining chicken was bland and tasteless, but at least it wasn’t dry. The onion rings tasted more of the oil they were cooked in than anything else but the chips were alright.
I couldn’t find anything I wanted on the dessert menu so opted for a coffee to finish off the meal. Again I was presented with a thimble sized beverage and the waiter had managed to spill about half of it into the saucer by the time it arrived. This turned out to be a blessing as the coffee looked and tasted more like the dishwater they wash the coffee cups in than an americano . It wasn’t even hot and I wasn’t given the option to have any sugar with it.

The dining area was quite nice but didn’t make up for the poor quality of the food and service.

Overall I would say I’ve had better meals at a weatherspoons and definitely better coffee and service.

I don’t see any reason to return.

Quite an odd place. A 10 minute walk west from Dundee city centre into what is obviously trying to be developed by the Council into an "arty" part of the city , with this building as the focus.

Two very large galleries were virtually empty other than a few canvases on the wall which looked like they had bits of yoghurt pots and empty toilet rolls stuck on them with glue and sellotape then liberally splatted with paint - think something your 5 year old might bring home from school , but on a larger scale. Two extremely bored guides sat on high chairs ignoring the (very few) rather baffled viewers. The toilets were closed with a crude paper sign directing people to the facilities downstairs.

Downstairs there is a modern cafe with an outdoor eating area and a couple of (closed) cinemas but it is rather pricy , especially for a family. I guess if you are heavily into modern art then this place works for you , but there was no effort made to engage or explain.

Attended the DCA on Monday 19th July , there were five of us for a meal and drinks. The food was acceptable, nothing fantastic but well cooked and presented. The service was poor: one coffee was ordered and we had to remind the waitress. We were there at Five thirty until eight forty five and only managed to purchase three rounds of drinks. So slow, you’d better not be thirsty or looking for a boozy night attending this establishment. Saved us having hangovers I suppose.

We saw 2 films at the DCA and had a meal in the restaurant. The cinema is good value and the seats are comfortable. It does get a little cosy, especially if it’s full. We had a burger which was delicious, let down by the fries which were overcooked and tasteless. Service was very good.

DCA - Disappointing Cocktails (all) Around

1. Caipirinha - literally the worst we’ve ever had. So bitter.

2. Pornstar Martini - we were really looking forward to these but they were quick….poured out of a jug (so sweet and quite unpleasant) and the Prosecco wasn’t nice :(

Nearly £40 lighter but very disappointed.

Went on Saturday 2nd September for a quick bite to eat and some drinks. Straight off the bar prices were ridiculous. £14 plus for a Guinness and glass of wine. Bearing in mind this is Dundee not London.

Ordered a burger with upgrade to piri piri fries (extra £1.50). The piri piri was basically powder poured over the fries. The burger came with cheese and bacon. The bacon was so undercooked a good vet could have brought it back to life. The bun basically disintegrated on first touch. The burger itself was decent but let down by everything else.

My partner had a small plate of fishcakes which she said were dry.

Staff were nice enough during the visit.

We had planned to sot outside in the courtyard and have a few drinks after food, but given the prices decided against.

Not a place we’ll hurry back to. If I could give a zero rating I would have done.
