Another blast from the past for me as I can still remember reading Desperate Dan in The Dandy comics. I always imagined Dan as a giant and this statue depicts him like a hulk walking down the street with his dog, Dawg. Funnily, Minnie the Minx is behind him about to fire off her trademark slingshot. I love it.

I was more a Beano reader than a Dandy one as a child, so Minnie the Minx is my favourite part of this statue. I like that Dundee seems to be very proud of DC Thompson and see a lot of tributes to their characters scattered around the city.

As a newcomer to Dundee, this statue served as a really good landmark for getting my way around though. It was an easy focal point as something to find when heading into town the first time, and I used it as a landmark to figure out directions to everywhere else!

Was really good to see these three statues situated in the high street in honour of the magazine that they came from. Desperate Dan is the prominent statue and is very photogenic.
Well worth finding these statues. Highly recommend.

Desperate Dan was the main character of the Dandy comic and was usually on the front cover of the weekly from Dundee publishers D C Thomson. My mum bought me both The Dandy and the Beano and usually got the Annuals for a Christmas present. Great to see one of my favourite childhood characters memorialised in this great statue !!

As a child I grew up with Desperate Dan through his weekly appearance in The Dandy. It was great to finally meet up with him on our visit to Dundee. He really is a great ambassador for the city. I think however that I'd better start cutting down on portios of Cow Pie as I'm getting a bit too much like Dan.

A fabulous statue depicting Desperate Dan by Dudley D Watkins near the Caird Hall.
Behind is his dog Gnasher. The characters were favourites in the Beano published by
D C Thomson of Dundee.
Thomson’s Offices are nearby in Albert Square.

Didn't know what to expect from the much advertised statues around Dundee centre.
But it is Desperate Dan - only disappointment is that he wasn't eating a cow pie - which will always be my lasting comic book impression of him.

Something to discover on the general statues of Dundee trail. Not sure if there is an official trail but you come across the statues incidentally anyway.

Here we have the striding surreal figure of lantern-jawed , barrel-chested Dan , the much loved character from The Dandy comic, and his dog - Dawg.
Dan was created back in 1937 by Dudley D. Watkins, and the character hails from the Wild West, sleeps on a bed of rubble, shaves with a blow-torch , & loves cow-pie.
He uses his super-toon strength to help out other toons in need of assistance.
Probably one of D.C. Thomson’s most iconic and loved creations.

This statue is a blast from the past for some people. Sadly this is my first time ever hearing about this guy. If you don't know know this is from the dandy comics.
