Be@utiful location

We walked over the quaint bridge to this museum, right by the river Nith. It’s really a charming building, set in a beautiful location.
Unfortunately it is currently closed due to Covid, but next time we are in Dumfries we shall visit..

Quaint Museum
Sep 2019
An old time quaint museum set out on 3 floors depicting how people lived in the past. It is free but donations are very welcome. The curator is a very nice person capable of providing historical information.

Interesting little museum

The dentists chair from years gone by in the old bridge house museum makes dentist appointments of nowadays nothing to be worried about. I like the insight into life in a victorian home.
This is Dumfries' oldest house built since 1660 into the sandstone of the Devorgilla bridge.

Enthusiastic staff, great bit of history

A lovely little museum, originally 2 flats this great place is seeped in history. The staff are so enthusiastic and very helpful, giving up lots of information about the buildings history and past occupants. Well worth a visit.

Tiny 'slice of life' museum

Very friendly helpful staff welcomed us to this little house that was originally 2 flats. Interesting collection giving an idea of how the inhabitants would have lived.

Interesting little piece of history.

Was just passing after a walk along the riverside and went into this small but very interesting museum. The lady in charge was very nice and gave us a very detailed account of the history of this unusual house. The fact that it was occupied up until 1955 with no water or electricity or gas was a shock. Definitely worth a visit.

A trip back to childhood

Called in here on crossing the bridge and were pleasantly surprised by what we find. Poss tubs, washboard, mangles and flat irons - what a nostalgia trip.
The lady we spoke to was very informative and made the visit that more interesting.

Friendly small myseum

Situated in the former toll house of the bridge there are fine views of the river from here. Pausing out side just before closing time the friendly custodian invited us in. It’s a very small museum on two floors filled with a miscellany of historic artefacts. My fave was the viewfinder. The vintage dentistry equipment makes you feel grateful you live in a modern age!
Free entry too.

The smallest museum I have ever encountered.

It's a tiny museum, of a tiny house, and it really only takes twenty minutes to see; but it's worth it.

Nice Little Museum
Apr 2019 • Couples
Lovely old bridge with small house attached. The house has a collection of historical items but not much specific to this house. It has an interesting history and is architecturally interesting. The bridge is pedestrianised and gives some nice views of the river. Museum is free.
