So yesterday my partner and I were in Peebles for the day. As a fly fisherman I remember watching a you tube video of the trout fly fisherman at kailzie and he recommended it. So thought we would stop by and check it out for future use. Had a coffee and cake at the wee cafe which was very pleasant. Nice courtyard. Friendly staff. Then went to the fishery part. Guy who runs it was getting a delivery of fish to stock the bait pool. When finished I explained I fly fish saw this place on you tube and asked if I could have a walk round the fly fishing pond for a look. His answer “NUT”. Gruffly and no reason just a flat “NUT” so I saw on the website they’re open till 10 pm which I thought was late so ignoring his manners I asked are they open till 10pm. His answer was “ what so you can walk about in the dark and mimicked hands out in front of him like you cant see where you’re going. So now I’m raging with him but simply said it says 10 pm on your website. Another gruff answer from him “ aye or dusk “. So won’t be back he was really rude wee man. Won’t waste my time trying out his fishery as other people will gladly take my money. Looked like a nice wee fishery as well. But can’t abide bad manners. What harm to walk around the pond for a look. Maybe see a spot where I would fish when going. Or simply explain “sorry” and let me know why not.

I’m not into fishing, but went with some friends and had a great time. The bloke who runs the fishery was really nice and explained everything we needed to know. My little boy caught a couple of fish and was thrilled.

We took our 3 primary school grandsons( ages 6-10) fishing for the Ist time.Having prebooked rods we arrived and ordered( fairly basic but excellent small burgers etc) and had a round of putting on the adjoining putting green next to the beginners pond whilst the food was prepared. The boys although new to putting enjoyed this diversion. After we ate our lunch Jimmy with extreme patience and humour showed us how to put on bait, how to hold the rod,how to cast, reel in when we had a tug and successfully land a fish.Over 75 minutes or so the boys had landed 9 rainbow trout and happily they each caught at least 2.The fish were paid for and later taken home for filleting and eating. They enjoyed what they landed( some went in the freezer) .On the way home one of the boys declared this was the best day out ever.We have had to promise to take them down to Peebles in the summer holidays. Thank you Jimmy.

Would like to say a big thank you to Jimmy & Jane for a fabulous day (well 2 days - the kids loved it so much we had to go back!) out at Kailzie fishery. They caught fish after fish, Jimmy had a lovely manner and was very patient with them all- even when one of them fell in the pond! We will definitely be back - thank you!

The man running this was absolutely fantastic. He helped us novices out with patience and kindness and made our morning. We caught 5 beautiful rainbow trout with his help!
