It says it is open until 4.30 but on fact was shut at 1pm. So annoying to make the effort to go and find out closed!!

A must for Buchan fans visiting Peebles.

The museum is small but packed with fascinating information on JB. Entry is free, but there is a box for donations. Buchan related items can be bought on site.

Excellent find
Aug 2019
I didn’t know anything about John Buchan (apart from The 39 Steps) but I loved this little place. It’s small but packs such a lot into it. I was amazed by what he had achieved and found it most enjoyable. It’s free but please give a generous donation to help keep the place open for others. A great little find.

Getting to know a great writer and Statesman
Jul 2019 • Family
I had visited Peebles many times, but unfortunately only passed the John Buchan story museum and said to myself: another time...
After having red a book of him at home here in Norway, I promised myself that I had to actually go and see the museum next time in Peebles. Last July on vacation in Peebles, I finally went. The museum was vey interesting, and managed to tell me a lot more about this great man, than only his writing.
You discover that this excellent writer, also was a very dedicated politician and Statesman, to become governor of Canada is of course a huge role with demands and great responsibility.
The John Buchan story museum is very nicely put together, with interesting photos and items in the exhibition. The guides are simply first class, I had the opportunity to meet three of them, a lady, and two gentlemen, and they were all so very dedicated, knowledgeable, very very friendly and not at least interested in giving you as a guest the very utmost of your visit.
I will definitely go again, as one probably never can learn enough about a man as Buchan.
Kind Regards, John Myhr Erichsen, Norway

Fiona was a star

Sweet little museum - full of nice facts, trivia and artefacts. Fiona, a volunteer, greeted us and gave us a mini tour, then left us to explore. It only seemed right that we bought a few John Buchan books in the gift shop afterwards.

Lovely wee museum
Jun 2019 • Family
This is a lovely wee museum with loads of information on the life of John Buchan. The guy behind the counter was very knowledgeable and was able to give you a quick run through of everything.

Fascinating Account of John Buchan

I knew a little about John Buchan but the exhibition was packed with displays and material about him as author, civil servant, etc. Also very detailed video presentation.

Interesting visit
Apr 2019 • Couples
John Buchan is a fascinating man with an amazing history. Novels, for which he is kown, is only a small part of the man. The museum is small, free and worth a visit with a most helpful man at the desk.
Go, enjoy and reflect on a life worth lived

Fascinating story, I learned so much about John Buchan
Oct 2018 • Solo
Like many people I knew John Buchan as the author of the 39 Steps but I had little idea how prolific he had been as an author or about the rest of his life, including his role in WW1 as Director of Intelligence or the fact that he became Governor General of Canada. Do visit this museum if you are in Peebles - it has a wealth of information. Note that it closes at end of October, re-opening in April.

Well presented museum of just the right size
Oct 2018 • Solo
Not everyone will know John Buchan these days, but even if you dont, a visit to this museum will make you curious to read some of his books. Its so well organised although the film in the back room is what you must look at first, to give you the context. (This isnt immediately apparent as you walk in, but this isnt a big place).
I think it would be quite interesting to children 8+.
