Didn't know this was Edinburgh Woollen Mills. didn't bother with the cafe, but it was busy. The shop did have some nice local touristy things and also some well priced stuff. Worth a short visit for tourist stuff shortbread etc. and a good bargain

Once you know it's EWM then you can know what to expect. Looked in to cafe for an afternoon cake....looked disappointing, didn't stay. Notice it's recently been demoted from 3 star to 2 star tourist attraction.

We were growing tired and in need of a pick me up while touring Melrose Abbey. We didn't want to drive to a restaurant and of the three cafes we saw nearby we chose the one right across the street and down the hill a short walk. I had an egg and mayo sandwich and my wife had a baked potato with beans (never tried beans on a potato before, except for chili beans back in the USA). They were reasonably priced, the service was very friendly and it saved us a lot of time, so even though it wasn't a fine dining experience, we weren't expecting one so it was just fine for us.…

This is a fairly typical Scottish Woolen Mills cafe and shop as seen all over Scotland. Fortunately our visit coincided with the departure of a tour coach, so was quite quiet. The tea and scones were served reasonably quickly by the two young staff members, who were pleasant but not very talkative. …
