McCaig’s Tower is a must; definitely worth making the effort up the winding roads, you will be rewarded with spectacular views; the sunsets in the summer have to be seen to be believed. A signpost has been erected pointing out landmarks of interest. A camera is a must to capture the beauty.

A very steep climb up here but well worth it for the fabulous views. There are plenty of seats when you reach the tower and you'll need them after the climb up! A notice board explains what you can see from the tower and it's lit up at night. The gardens inside are well kept too.

I visited Oban in November 2016 when the weather wasn't great, but on the first evening, me and my girlfriend walked to the tower and got a great view of Oban and the surround coast. It was a nice way to watch the sunset and see the rain clouds coming for us.

It's obviously up a hill, so not the easiest walk, but once you're there, it has wonderful views of Oban, which is a very pretty place.

Worth the walk up from the town (or the drive!) Some interesting history associated with McCaig's Tower. Good to have a signboard that clearly explains the view and what you are seeing beyond Oban. Take a picnic and sit on one of the many benches and watch the ferries come and go!

A steep walk from the main street in Oban or you can cheat and park just outside the entrance. Well worth it for the splendid views. The folly itself is fairly pointless, other than a reflection of social policy for creating employment in days gone by.

Walked around the tower and viewed the illuminated (changing colours) tower from the pier after dark. Lovely view over Oban.

Over Oban on Battery Hill you'll immediately notice McCaig's tower. Constructed in part to employ unemployed masons by John Stuart McCaig. A philanthropic idea! Worked on from 1895 to 1900. Was told the plan was to further expand it. Anyway it's monumental and I kind of like it. Standing there overlooking the city.

The rain had stopped and we drove to the Tower to remind ourselves about the views of the islands. Although it was windy, the views were crystal clear, and the Tower seemed to be as well maintained as always. The gardens too were well-kept. Altogether a credit to Oban!
