DO NOT SHOP HERE!!
Absolutely shocking experience in this shop, I was mislead and sold a blended malt wiskey when I originally asked for a single malt, paid £45 for somthing that was incorrect, considering I told the man in the shop I was a novice when it comes to wiskey and that I was purchasing for a gift he took full advantage of this and decided to push me into buying somthing which I did not ask for! (Coincidentally loch fyne own brew) Once I realised I asked to refund the item and he refused me upon the basis of "company policy" which I was not informed of at the point of sale.. this man broke the law, The Consumer Act 2015 clearly states by law if the customer is miss sold somthing you have to offer a refund! I am strongly appalled at this companys "refund policy" which I was never offered any information on and considering I asked for a refund 1hr after purchase so was well with in my 14days return rights. Absolutely shocking service will never use again and warn others not to aswell!

We previously visited Inveraray for a short break a few years ago. During that visit I had bought a bottle of whisky from Loch Fyne Whiskies and when I came across the shop again during a recent stopover visit I had to go in. As it was my wife went into the 'The Christmas Dove' immediately next door so I knew I had some free time in hand to look at the stock.
I found the sales assistant to be extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. As it turned out I only bought a miniature but it was a good one from a distillery that I'd never previously tasted any whisky from.

The lovely man here was very informative and even gave my husband who is French a taste of various whisky's to help him decide which one to purchase. I had a great chat about the difficulty in ordering certain whisky as I run a bar in an hotel. We had a chat about his late wife and some great memories were talked about. What a variety of whisky on display , a great host, businessman and all round wonderful experience . Definitely the best whisky shop in this wee place to visit by miles , give him a visit as it's worth the time , keep the good work up !!

Since the takeover now fully subsumed by The Whisky Shop in all but name - such a pity. Gone is the friendly, nonchalant, individuality and expertise, sadly replaced by uninterested shop assistants better suited to peddling tartan rugs and shortbread.
Like the many other TWS outlets the target audience appears to be coach trippers looking for a novelty to take home to Uncle Ralph - forget it - buy it online, cheaper.
If you want to experience the best parts of the way LFW used to be, plus some extra idiosyncratic twists then on the opposite side of the road you'll find Fyne Malts of Inveraray - owned and run by Andy Burns, one of the true characters of Scotch and previously one of LFW's most knowledgeable stalwarts. Go there. Buy stuff. Be happy.

Used to be one of the finest independent whisky retailers in the UK - now a shadow of its former self since being absorbed into the hive-mind of The Whisky Shop chain.
Over-priced whisky, a poor selection of which can be bought at a fraction of the price online. All is not lost however.
If you are in Inveraray and looking for a great bottle of whisky sold by an expert that won't gouge you for a bottle of supermarket-available booze, pop across the road to Fyne Malts of Inveraray and talk to Andy Burns. He'll sort you out.

Ok so this is the third time I've visited this shop for a bottle of The Loch Fyne Whiskey. The first two occasions went well with me purchasing a 70cl bottle for £20. However on this my third visit, I was informed by the lady (and I use that term loosely) behind the counter that they had rebranded the product and it was now only available in a new more modern square shaped bottle but it was exactly the same. Oh but it's just a couple of pounds dearer that's all - £24 to be exact and guess what, the lovely new modern square shaped bottle only holds 50cl not 70??!!! So feel free if you like getting ripped off, head to The Loch Fyne Whiskey shop on Main Street Inveraray and purchase a bottle of whiskey for more than before and for 20cl less?! The choice is yours.........

Every year for the last 25 years I've visited Loch Fyne Whiskies in Inveraray. Each year I looked forward to walking in through the small door into a scene that could be taken from a Harry Potter movie - except the store was there before Harry Potter. One of the delights of each annual visit would be an interesting chat with supremely knowledgeable staff headed by owner Richard - perhaps a taste of something lovely, different, unusual.
This year all has changed. Richard sold the store a year or more ago and it appears to have been taken over by a whisky shop chain. Does that make it a bad store? No, but the magic has definitely gone. Today the stock is missing that eclectic something that defined the old shop. Also the staff though pleasant enough aren't as enthusiastic as before.
But all is not lost.
One of the staff of the previous incarnation that made this shop so unique has set up his own operation down the street and across the road - If you remember the old shop go straight past Loch Fyne Whiskies to see The Whisky Sourcer'er. Otherwise visit Loch Fyne Whiskies by all means but don't part with your cash until you've visited the other shop as well and seen the delights on offer there.

Was very sad to see when I visited Inverary that the established whisky shop had been bought by a large whisky consortium after visiting for many years to acquire rare & fine whisky!
The disappointment went even further when I was informed the man who had been there for 15yrs or more was no longer employed his knowledge and character was second to none he created great laughter & encouraged by his demeanour people always went away with a reminder of this special whisky shop
Alas no more ! No character left in the shop no laughter anymore & while we were in the shop no one asked if we needed anything !!!
But on leaving we went into another shop and were lamenting about the man who made the shop what it was and lo & behold he has opened his very own Whisky Shop next to the chemist fantastic we quickly hurried over & there he was telling all about the bottles of whisky & still lots of laughter he remembered us & we bought 4 bottles of malt 3 bottles of gin 2 bottles liquor whisky some whisky glasses & a few small bottles what a joy to see him & the knowledge he carries about whisky .
We will certainly make sure all our friends & the tourists who visit our establishment are informed about his new shop & location Lang may his lump reek !!

Have visited this shop for countless years. Always a pleasure speaking to Andy and Laura who were very knowledgeable about whisky and made you feel so welcome. Over the years we have spent a great deal of money in this shop and this was due to the great quality whisky on sale and the staff.
But how things change!! Visited last week-no Andy and no Laura!! One young guy and another lady behind the counter-not a lot of knowledge and even less 'banter'! Not such a great choice of whiskey either-seem to be going for the cheaper end and pushing their own whisky! Shops all changed for the worse-clinical!! No longer the alladins cave that it was. Can only mourn the end of an era-won't ever go back!! Total shame. Andy was the heart and soul of that business-wonder I they realise what they have lost??

I should have known something was wrong. First there was the junk mail, every week a Loch Fyne Whisky e-mail, not something you would expect of Richard Joynson.
Then I noticed there wasn't so many 'deals' and what 'deals' there were, well it was just a couple of quid off.
Then my online Christmas order took weeks to arrive, and only arrived after a few phone calls to the shop.
Finally I started to receive junk mail from The Whisky Shop. The e-mail stated that I was receiving it because I had either signed up to their e-mail list or I had made a purchase from them. One place I never ever ever buy whisky from is The Whisky Shop. I have never bought anything from them and most certainly would not sign up to their e-newsletter. As reviewer softvark says, The Whisky Shop is there for the tourists and it's there to rip them off and rip em off big style, The Whisky Shop pricing policy is RPI plus, and plus as much as they can get away with.
I also noticed on the web site that Richard's no holds barred reviews of various whiskies and his entertaining use of language seemed to be gradually getting replaced with standard unhelpful two sentence statements on products.
Yes it's like losing a friend. I've only just figured it out. I first discovered Loch Fyne Whiskies in the early 90's. Since then, whenever I got a chance I used pop by the shop. I mostly buy my whisky from the supermarket, but when I wanted something special whether as a treat for myself or a present for a whisky loving friend it was always LFW.
So disappointed Richard Joynson has sold his once fabulous business to The Whisky Shop. So sad.

Loch Fyne Whisky makes several excellent whiskeys.
The knowledgeable staff at Inverary will talk you through their drinks and allow you to sample several of them.
One of the latest is a whisky with a chocolate orange taste. An excellent whisky priced at £29.
